Gerlovo Beach
Gerlovo Beach (, ) is a beach extending 2 km on the northwest coast of Ioannes Paulus II Peninsula on Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. It stretches both south and northeast of Mercury Bluff, facing San Telmo Island to the north by west, and featuring Belomortsi Point in its northern part. Snow-free in summer, with area ca. . Seal Hunting
Seal hunting, or sealing, is the personal or commercial hunting of Pinniped, seals. Seal hunting is currently practiced in nine countries: Canada, Denmark (in self-governing Greenland only), Russia, the United States (above the Arctic Circle in Alaska), Namibia, Estonia, Norway, Finland and Sweden. Most of the world's seal hunting takes place in Canada and Greenland. The Canadian Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) regulates the seal hunt in Canada. It sets quotas (total allowable catch – TAC), monitors the hunt, studies the seal population, works with the Canadian Sealers' Association to train sealers on new regulations, and promotes sealing through its website and spokespeople. Antarctic Place-names Commission
The Antarctic Place-names Commission was established by the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute in 1994, and since 2001 has been a body affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Bulgaria), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria. The Commission approves Bulgarian place names in Antarctica, which are formally given by the List of Presidents of Bulgaria, President of the Republic according to the Constitution of Bulgaria, Bulgarian Constitution (Art. 98) and the established international practice. Gerlovo
Gerlovo or Gerilovo ( or Герилово), is a small geographic and ethnographic region in Northern Bulgaria, a hilly fertile valley in the northeastern Balkan Mountains, south of the Ludogorie region. It lies between the Lisa, Preslav-Dragoevo and Kotel-Varbitsa mountains and covers much of Varbitsa municipality of Shumen Province, with smaller parts in Omurtag municipality (Targovishte Province) and Kotel municipality (Sliven Province). The main river is the Kamchiya, which runs through the entire valley and forms the Ticha Reservoir; the only sizable town is Varbitsa. Cape Shirreff
Cape Shirreff is a prominent cape at the north end of the rocky peninsula which separates Hero Bay and Barclay Bay on the north coast of Livingston Island, in the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica. The cape was named by Edward Bransfield in 1820 after Captain William H. Shirreff, the British commanding officer in the Pacific at that time. The seasonal scientific field station Doctor Guillermo Mann Base has been operated by Chile since 1991 and the Shirreff Base (now Holt Watters Field Camp) by the USA since 1996. An Antarctic Specially Protected Area (ASPA) is an area on the continent of Antarctica, or on nearby islands, which is protected by scientists and several different international bodies.
