Gerhardsen Gerner
Gerhardsen Gerner is a gallery for contemporary art located at Linienstrasse 85 in Berlin-Mitte. The gallery maintains a second space in Oslo, and is operated by gallery owners Atle Gerhardsen (*1964 in Oslo) and Nicolai Gerner-Mathisen (*1979 in Oslo). The gallery was founded by Atle Gerhardsen in Oslo in 1995, under the name ''c/o''. Atle Gerhardsen showed works by artists such as Tony Oursler, Matthew Ritchie and Carroll Dunham for the first time in Oslo. After moving to Berlin in 2000, Atle Gerhardsen opened the space in the railway arches near the Berlin Jannowitzbrücke station under the name ''c/o – Atle Gerhardsen'' in 2001. In early 2009, the gallery was renamed ''Gerhardsen Gerner'' in order to include the name of Atle Gerhardsen's business partner of many years, Nicolai Gerner-Mathisen. Mitte
Mitte () is the first and most central borough of Berlin. The borough consists of six sub-entities: Mitte proper, Gesundbrunnen, Hansaviertel, Moabit, Tiergarten and Wedding. It is one of the two boroughs (the other being Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg) which were formerly divided between East Berlin and West Berlin. Lothar Hempel
Lothar Hempel (born 1966 in Cologne) is a German artist based in Berlin. He attended Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1987 to 1992. Artistic practice Hempel transforms the exhibition space into a stage on which the visitor becomes an actor in a story full of cross-references and contradictions. The works are at once the synopsis, the set, the characters and the props of a play. They represent the different parts of a narrative created out of references to German history, psychology, Greek tragedy, cinema, music, political and social history, neurology, and modern dance, for instance.. Hempel borrows a number of different styles and strategies, whether invented by Dada, Constructivism, the Bauhaus or Joseph Beuys. He uses visual metaphors by incorporating images or found objects. Annika Ström
Annika Ström (born 9 November 1964) is a Swedish artist, living and working in London, United Kingdom. Ström works mainly with performance art, text, films (video art) and sound. Her work addresses subjective states of crisis and insecurity in songs, videos and text pieces displaying self-reflective phrases like "''Excuse me I am sorry'', ''Everything in this show can be used against me'', ''I am a better artist than I deserve''". In her films Ström draws upon details of everyday life and seemingly insignificant experiences usually accompanied by her own low-fi synth-pop soundtracks. She often works with members of her family. Thomas Ruff (born 10 February 1958) is a German photographer who lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany. He has been described as "a master of edited and reimagined images".
