Gerhard Hund
Gerhard Friedrich Hund (4 February 1932 – 21 June 2024) was a German chess player, mathematician and computer scientist. Biography Gerhard Hund was the oldest son of physicist Friedrich Hund (1896–1997) and mathematician Ingeborg Seynsche (1905–1994). He studied at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena (1950–1951) and at the Goethe University Frankfurt (1951–1955). After graduation, he was collaborator of Alwin Walther at the Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Technical University of Darmstadt, Technische Hochschule Darmstadt. From 1961 to 1995 he was in middle management of Bayer in Leverkusen, from 1974 as procurator. Hund died on 21 June 2024, at the age of 92. The German Chess Federation (, DSB) is the umbrella organization for German chess players. It is a member of the Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund and of FIDE, the World Chess Federation. It has over 90,000 members in over 2500 clubs, making it one of the world's largest national chess federations. Its members are 17 regional chess federations, the German Blind and Visually Impaired Chess Federation (DBSB), Die Schwalbe (chess composition society), the , and the Chess Bundesliga. Chess of the Grandmasters (original title: Schach der Großmeister) is a former German TV programme. The programme was devised, supervised and presented by Claus Spahn. History Between 1983 and 2005, the programme was broadcast once a year by Germany's Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) broadcasting corporation. The concept of the programme was that two Grandmasters played a game of chess against each other that was commentated and analysed by two Grandmasters, Helmut Pfleger and Vlastimil Hort, and later also analysed by the chess program Fritz. The winner received the ''WDR TV Chess Award'' and had the opportunity to defend the title against a new challenger in the following year. The invited players included Garry Kasparov, Vladimir Kramnik, Viswanathan Anand, Peter Leko, Jan Timman and lot more. Dortmund Sparkassen Chess Meeting
The Dortmund Sparkassen Chess Meeting is an open chess tournament held every summer in Dortmund, Germany. Until 2020, Dortmund was an invite-only event, with the exception that one slot at Dortmund was awarded to the winner of the annual Aeroflot Open in Moscow. After an interruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting was relaunched as the Sparkassen Chess Trophy International Dortmund Chess Days. The elite tournament was usually played in a round-robin tournament, round-robin or double round-robin format. However, it took the form of a series of heads-up matches in 2002 and 2004.
