Gerard De Vries Lentsch
Gerardus "Gerard" de Vries Lentsch (23 November 1883, Nieuwendam, North Holland – 9 July 1973, Oegstgeest) was a sailing (sport), sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his native country at the Sailing at the 1928 Summer Olympics – 8 metre class, 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. De Vries Lentsch, as crew member on the Dutch 8 Metre (keelboat), 8 Metre ''Hollandia'', took the 2nd place with helmsman Johannes van Hoolwerff and fellow crew members: Lambertus Doedes, Cornelis van Staveren, Henk Kersken and Maarten de Wit. Gerard de Vries Lentsch is the older brother of Willem de Vries Lentsch and the uncle of Wim de Vries Lentsch. Nieuwendam
Nieuwendam (literal translation: "new dam") is a neighbourhood of Amsterdam, Netherlands, best known for its marina (Dutch language, Dutch: ''jachthaven''). A former village in the Provinces of the Netherlands, province of North Holland, Nieuwendam was a separate List of municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality until 1921, when it merged with Amsterdam, at the same time as Ransdorp. The municipality also covered the village of Zunderdorp. Nowadays, it is part of the Amsterdam-Noord borough. Maarten de Wit (30 May 1883 in Wormerveer – 30 March 1955 in Zaandam) was a sailor from the Netherlands who represented his native country at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. De Wit, as crew member on the Dutch 8 Metre ''Hollandia'', took the 2nd place with helmsman Johannes van Hoolwerff and fellow crew members: Lambertus Doedes, Cornelis van Staveren, Henk Kersken and Gerard de Vries Lentsch. De Wit was the son of Simon de Wit (1852–1934), founder of the Simon de Wit supermarket chain, of which Maarten was a director. Willem "Wim" de Vries Lentsch, Jr. (20 June 1914, Amsterdam – 27 January 2007, Amsterdam) was a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his native country at the 1948 Summer Olympics in Torbay. De Vries Lentsch Jr., as helmsman on the Dutch Swallow ''St. Margrite'', took the 11th place with crew Flip Keegstra. In the 1952 Olympics De Vries Lentsch returned as helmsman of the Dutch 5.5 Metre ''De Ruyter'', with crew members Flip Keegstra and Piet Jan van der Giessen. There he took the 13th place.
