Gerald Hewes Carson (July 6, 1899 – December 4, 1989) was an American advertising executive, social historian and writer. Biography Carson was born in Carrollton, Illinois.Flint, Peter B. He started advertising in 1923. He was vice president at William Esty & Company, at Benton & Bowles and at Kenyon & Eckhardt. He became a full time writer in 1951 and was on the advisory board of the ''American Heritage'' magazine during 1964–1976 and in 1989. Carrollton, Illinois
Carrollton is a city in and the county seat of Greene County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,484 as of the 2010 census. Geography Carrollton is located in south-central Greene County at (39.296662, -90.408059). U.S. Route 67 passes through the city as 5th Street, leading north to Jacksonville and south to Alton on the Mississippi River. Illinois Route 108 (Main Street) crosses US 67 in the center of town, leading east to Carlinville and west to Kampsville on the Illinois River. According to the 2010 census, Carrollton has a total area of , of which (or 99.89%) is land and (or 0.11%) is water. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing animal cruelty. Based in New York City since its inception in 1866, the organization's mission is "to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States." History Following the creation of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) in the United Kingdom in 1824 (given Royal status in 1840), Henry Bergh founded the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on April 10, 1866, in New York City on the belief that "animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans, and must be protected under the law".
