Georgia Tech Europe (GTE) is a campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology in Metz, France and is part of Georgia Tech's International Plan. GTE offers undergraduate and graduate programs in electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, and liberal arts. Organization Georgia Tech Europe is integrated into French and American structures—it is an affiliate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, and it is incorporated under French law as a non-profit organization ("Association à but non lucratif"). The Georgia Institute of Technology (commonly referred to as Georgia Tech, GT, and simply Tech or the Institute) is a public university, public research university and Institute of technology (United States), institute of technology in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Established in 1885, it has the largest student enrollment of the University System of Georgia, University System of Georgia institutions and satellite campuses Georgia Tech Savannah, in Savannah, Georgia, and Georgia Tech Europe, Metz, France. The school was founded as the Georgia School of Technology as part of Reconstruction era of the United States, Reconstruction efforts to build an industrial economy in the Southern United States after the American Civil War, Civil War.
