State Route 36 (SR 36) is a state highway that travels southwest-to-northeast through portions of Harris, Talbot, Upson, Lamar, Butts, and Newton counties in the central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. The highways connects the Waverly Hall area with Covington, via Thomaston, Barnesville, and Jackson. Route description SR 36 begins at an intersection with SR 208 about east of Waverly Hall and just west of the Harris– Talbot county line. Almost immediately, it crosses into Talbot County and travels in a fairly northeasterly direction, before curving to the east-northeast to meet SR 41 in Greens Mill. The two highways head concurrently to the north into Woodland, where they diverge. Waverly Hall is a town in Harris County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Columbus, Georgia-Alabama metropolitan statistical area. The population was 638 in 2020. History A post office called Waverly was established in 1829. The community derives its name from Sir Walter Scott's Waverley novels. The Rock is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Upson County, Georgia, United States. The Rock is located on Georgia State Route 36, northeast of Thomaston. State Route 74 (SR 74) is a state highway that runs southeast-to-northwest through portions of Bibb, Monroe, Upson, Pike, Meriwether, Coweta, Fayette, and Fulton counties in the central part of the U.S. state of Georgia.
