George Moose
George Edward Moose (born June 23, 1944) is an American diplomat who served as the chair of the board of directors of the United States Institute of Peace from 2021-2025. He formerly served as Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs from 1993 to 1997, Representative to the United Nations in Geneva from 1997 to 2001, and as Ambassador to the Republics of Benin and Senegal in the 1980s and 1990s. He is primarily known for serving as Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs in the Clinton Administration during the Rwandan genocide. Moose was fired as CEO and removed from the USIP board on by the Trump administration. The reason cited was noncompliance with a recent executive order on repurposing federally-supported foreign assistance. Rwandan Genocide
The Rwandan genocide, also known as the genocide against the Tutsi, occurred from 7 April to 19 July 1994 during the Rwandan Civil War.
