George Hough Dutton
George Hough Dutton (August 20, 1825 – June 28, 1905) was an American merchant and pioneer who came out west during the time of the California gold rush. He was a veteran of the American Civil War who served as a lieutenant in the Union Army. In 1866, Dutton settled in Jolon, California where he purchased the Antonio Ramirez adobe Inn in 1876 and converted it into a two-story hotel and stagecoach station. The hotel is now a landmark, named the Dutton Hotel, Stagecoach Station, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 14, 1971. Early life He had been in Melbourne, Australia and reached California in 1849 during the Gold Rush. Tidball Store or Jolon General Store is located off Jolon Road in Jolon, California, United States, 1/4 mile south of the Dutton Hotel, Stagecoach Station. The store was constructed by pioneer, Thomas Theodore Tidball, from the remains of an old adobe inn, built in 1868 by Flint & Bixby Stage Lines. Tidball supplied food, clothing, building supplies and other necessities to customers traveling through and to local ranchers and miners. The store was a major stagecoach stop on the old El Camino Real in the late 1880s. The landmark was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 12, 1976. Love (also Love's and Love's Station) is an unincorporated community located in Desoto County, Mississippi, United States. Love is approximately south of Hernando along U.S. Route 51 or I-55. History The community was named after W.R. Love, a prominent physician and planter. The town was incorporated as "Love's" in 1878. "Love's Station" was a stop on the Illinois Central Railroad, built in the 1850s between Memphis, Tennessee and Grenada. In the early 1900s, the community had a general store.
