George Hickman (actor)
George Hickman (19 January 1909 – 26 August 1978) was an English cricketer. Hickman was a right-handed batsman. He was born in Burnopfield, County Durham. Hickman made his first-class debut for Warwickshire against Derbyshire in the 1929 County Championship. He made a further first-class appearance in 1929 against Kent. These were his only major appearances for the county. He later joined Durham, who he made his debut for in the 1933 Minor Counties Championship against Northumberland. He played Minor counties cricket for Durham from 1933 to 1936, making 29 appearances. While playing for Durham, he made two first-class appearances for the Minor Counties in 1935, playing against Cambridge University and Oxford University. He died in Stranraer, Wigtownshire, Scotland on 26 August 1978. Burnopfield is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated north of Stanley, County Durham, Stanley and Annfield Plain, close to the River Derwent, North East England, River Derwent and is above sea level. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field, at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails (small sticks) balanced on three stumps. Two players from the batting team, the striker and nonstriker, stand in front of either wicket holding bats, while one player from the fielding team, the bowler, bowls the ball toward the striker's wicket from the opposite end of the pitch. Oxford University Cricket Club (OUCC), which represents the University of Oxford, had held first-class status since 1827 when it made its debut in the inaugural University Match between OUCC and Cambridge University Cricket Club (CUCC). Cambridge University Cricket Club, established in 1820, is the representative cricket club for students of the University of Cambridge. The club was recognised as holding first-class cricket, first-class status until 2020. The university played List A cricket in 1972 and 1974 only. It has not played top-level Twenty20 cricket.
