George Haswani
George Haswani ( ar, جورج حسواني, born 29 September 1946) is a Syrian-Russian businessman with close ties to the Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad, who owns the HESCO Engineering and Construction Company, a major engineering, construction and natural gas production company operating in Syria. Biography Hesco is owned by George Haswani, a Greek Catholic businessman from the city of Yabroud. George Haswani, was a mediator in the deal to free nuns in March 2015. Haswani has a close friendship with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and others from his family, which gave him a great deal of influence that he used to win large contracts in oil and gas projects, such as Tweenan gas (the North Central Region gas project), the Arab gas pipeline project, and others. Liwa Owais Al-Qorani
The Owais al-Qorani Brigade ( ar, لواء أويس القرني; Liwa Owais al-Qorani) is a Syrian rebel group from al-Thawrah that was formed in 2012 and revered the Islamic martyr Uwais al-Qarani. Originally part of the Free Syrian Army, the brigade later became a subordinate of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, only to be destroyed by ISIL in 2014 over disagreements. 2020 Beirut Explosion
On 4 August 2020, a large amount of ammonium nitrate stored at the Port of Beirut in the capital city of Lebanon exploded, causing at least 218 deaths, 7,000 injuries, and US$15 billion in property damage, as well as leaving an estimated 300,000 people homeless. A cargo of 2,750 tonnes of the substance (equivalent to around 1.1 kilotons of TNT) had been stored in a warehouse without proper safety measures for the previous six years after having been confiscated by the Lebanese authorities from the abandoned ship .
