George H. Lindsay
George Henry Lindsay (January 7, 1837 – May 25, 1916) was an American businessman and politician who served six terms as a United States representative from New York from 1901 to 1913. He was the Coroner of Kings County, New York, from 1886 to 1892. Life He was born in Manhattan on January 7, 1837. He moved with his parents to Brooklyn in 1843. He attended the public schools and engaged in the real estate and investment business. Political career He was a member of the New York State Assembly (Kings Co., 7th D.) in 1882, 1883, 1884, 1885 and 1886; and was Coroner of Kings County, New York, from 1886 to 1892. He was appointed assistant tax commissioner in 1898 and was a delegate to various national and State conventions. Robert Baker (April 1862 – June 15, 1943) was an American politician and a U.S. Representative from New York from 1903 to 1905. Biography Born at Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England, U.K. in April 1862, Baker attended the common schools; immigrated to the United States in 1882, and settled in Albany, New York. He married Gertrude A. Zoller in 1887. Career Baker moved to Brooklyn, New York, in 1889. After an unfortunate experience at the hands of a doctor, he became a Christian Scientist. A prominent reformer and follower of the single tax theories of Henry George, he was a founding member of the Citizens Union in 1897, and ran unsuccessfully for election to the State assembly in 1894 and auditor of New York City in 1902. He was the son of George Henry Lindsay, who was also a U.S. Representative. Biography He was born in Brooklyn on March 28, 1865 to George Henry Lindsay. He attended the public schools, was deputy coroner of Kings County, New York from 1886 to 1892 (during which time his father was coroner) and engaged in the real estate business. He was a member of the Democratic State committee and served as leader of the assembly district from 1919 to 1934.
