George Grimmer
George Grimmer (February 28, 1827March 16, 1907) was a Canadian American immigrant, lumberman, politician, and Wisconsin pioneer. He served in the Wisconsin State Senate for four years, representing the 1st State Senate district—northeastern Wisconsin. Biography Grimmer was born on February 28, 1827, in Saint David Parish, New Brunswick, then part of British North America. He emigrated to the United States, and, in 1850, he moved to Shawano, Wisconsin, to work as a lumberman. Three years later, he moved to Kewaunee, Wisconsin, where he remained for the rest of his life. In Kewaunee, he served as chairman of the town board for several years, and was chairman of the Kewaunee County Board of Supervisors. In 1876, he was elected to the Wisconsin State Senate, running on the Republican Party ticket. Wisconsin's 1st State Senate District
The 1st Senate District of Wisconsin is one of 33 districts in the Wisconsin State Senate. Located in northeast Wisconsin, the district comprises all of Door and Kewaunee counties, as well as most of northern Manitowoc County, much of south and east Brown County, northern Calumet County, and part of southwest Outagamie County. It includes the city of Two Rivers, most of the city of De Pere, and parts of the cities of Appleton and Menasha. The district does not contain, but is adjacent to, the Green Bay area. Current elected officials André Jacque is the senator representing the 1st district. He was first elected in the 2018 general election, after losing an earlier bid for the seat in a June 2018 special election. Shawano County (pronounced SHAW-no) (originally Shawanaw County) is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,881. Its county seat is Shawano. Shawano County is included in the Shawano, WI Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Green Bay-Shawano, WI Combined Statistical Area. History Its name is from a modified Ojibwa term meaning "southern"; it was the southern boundary of the Ojibwa nation. A Menominee chief named ''Sawanoh'' led a band that lived in the area.
