George Curzon (actor)

Commander Chambré George William Penn Curzon (18 October 1898 – 7 May 1976), known as George Curzon, was a Royal Navy commander, actor, and father of the present Earl Howe. Curzon, born in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, England, was the only son of diplomat the Hon. Frederick Curzon-Howe (a son of the 3rd Earl Howe) and his wife, the actress Ellis Jeffreys. Curzon trained for the Navy at the Royal Naval College, Osborne, on the Isle of Wight, and first saw action in the First World War. He retired from the Navy as a lieutenant commander, then served as a King's Messenger before turning to the West End stage in 1930. Curzon then went to America and appeared on the New York stage in the play '' Parnell'' before entering films. He was given a minor role as a police constable in Basil Dean's '' Escape'' (1930). George Nathaniel Curzon, 1st Marquess Curzon of Kedleston (11 January 1859 – 20 March 1925), known as Lord Curzon (), was a British statesman, Conservative Party (UK), Conservative politician, explorer and writer who served as Viceroy of India from 1899 to 1905 and Foreign Secretary (United Kingdom), Foreign Secretary from 1919 to 1924. Curzon was born in Derbyshire into an aristocratic family and educated at Eton College and Balliol College, Oxford, before entering Parliament of the United Kingdom, Parliament in 1886. In the following years, he travelled extensively in Russia, Central Asia and the Far East, and published several books on the region in which he detailed his geopolitical outlook and underlined the perceived Russian Empire, Russian threat to British control of India. ''Escape!'' is a 1930 British crime film directed by Basil Dean and starring Gerald du Maurier, Edna Best and Gordon Harker. It was based on the 1926 play of the same title by John Galsworthy, which was adapted again as a film in 1948. Plot Captain Matt Denant (Gerald du Maurier) is a former army officer who had been pursued by Germans during the war. ''Her First Affaire'' is a play in three acts. Existing in two different versions, the original play was authored by Merrill Rogers and premiered on Broadway in 1927. The play was reworked for its United Kingdom staging in 1930 by playwright Frederick Jackson, and both Jackson and Rogers were credited as authors for this second version of the play which premiered at the Lewisham Hippodrome in 1930. Earl Howe is a title that has been created twice in British history, for members of the Howe and Curzon-Howe family respectively. The first creation, in the Peerage of Great Britain, was in 1788 for Richard Howe, 4th Viscount Howe, but it became extinct upon his death in 1799. The second creation, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, was in 1821 for Richard Curzon-Howe, 2nd Viscount Curzon, and it remains extant. History First creation (1788) The Howe family descended from John Grobman Howe, of Langar, Nottinghamshire. He married Annabella, illegitimate daughter of Emanuel Scrope, 1st Earl of Sunderland.
