George Boote
George Boote (1878 – 1930) was an English association football, football Goalkeeper (association football), goalkeeper who played in the English Football League, Football League for Port Vale F.C., Burslem Port Vale and Stoke City F.C., Stoke. Career Boote played one match for Stoke City F.C., Stoke; his one appearance came in a 1–1 draw with Nottingham Forest F.C., Nottingham Forest in October 1901. He then played for local amateur sides Halmerend Rovers and Silverdale Town before joining Port Vale F.C., Burslem Port Vale as Arthur Box's deputy in November 1905. His debut came in a 2–1 defeat to Barnsley F.C., Barnsley at the Athletic Ground (Cobridge), Athletic Ground on 27 January 1906. He only played a further two games before being released at the end of 1905–06 Burslem Port Vale F.C. season, the season. He then moved on to Knutton Rovers. Stoke-upon-Trent
Stoke-upon-Trent, commonly called Stoke is one of the six towns that along with Hanley, Burslem, Fenton, Longton and Tunstall form the city of Stoke-on-Trent, in Staffordshire, England. The town was incorporated as a municipal borough in 1874. In 1910 it became one of the six towns that federated to become the County Borough of Stoke-on-Trent and later the City of Stoke-on-Trent. Since federation in 1910 it has the seat of the city's council, though Stoke-on-Trent's city centre is usually regarded as being the nearby town of Hanley which, since federation, has been the most commercially important of the six towns. The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. Athletic Ground (Cobridge)
The Athletic Ground also known as Cobridge Stadium was a football stadium and greyhound racing stadium, located in Cobridge, Stoke-on-Trent. Football The ground was home to Port Vale for 27 years, hosting twelve Football League seasons. It was located opposite the church on Waterloo Road, directly on the Hanley and Burslem tram line. The seven-acre site was obtained from the Sandbach Charity on a 21-year lease. It was surrounded by a 430-yard cinder track for athletics and cycling, hence the name. On the north side was a 1,000 capacity grandstand, along with three shower baths and a gymnasium. Barnsley () is a market town in South Yorkshire, England. As the main settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and the fourth largest settlement in South Yorkshire.
