George Bennett (Ontario Politician)
George Bennett (March 10, 1887 - February 29, 1948) was the 19th Mayor of the City of Windsor and a Member of Provincial Parliament in Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1943 to 1945. He represented the riding of Windsor—Sandwich for the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF). Bennett's time as a mayor was brief, from 1935 to 1936. He was preceded by David Croll and succeeded by Ernest S. Wigle. Bennett was elected in a surprise sweep by the CCF and Ted Jolliffe in 1943, where his party went from no seats to 34. He served on several Legislative Committees including Public Accounts, Municipal Law, and Game and Fish. He lost his seat in 1945, along with many of his fellow CCF MPP's. Windsor-Sandwich would not be represented by a social democrat until 1967 when Hugh Peacock was elected. In 1910 he married Hannah Elizabeth Hackney. George Bennet (pastoralist)
George Bennet (1870 – 16 May 1928) was a pastoralist and racehorse owner in South Australia. History Bennet was born in Victor Harbor, the elder son of George Bennet and his wife Emily Bennet, née Dyke. At age 18 he and his younger brother Albert Francis Bennet (born 1874) accompanied their father to Macumba Station, where he had taken a position of manager. The father and brother died of unexplained causes during hot weather at Macumba Station on 8 December 1888. Bennet continued working with cattle, and around 1898 began breeding Hereford stud cattle, and he won numerous prizes with bulls exhibited in Victoria and South Australia. He also bred Shorthorn bulls. In 1900 was left the Cecilia Creek run by James Allen, a former employee. At one time he owned Allandale Station, of , whose homestead is approximately from Oodnadatta. George Montagu Bennet, 7th Earl of Tankerville (30 March 1852 – 9 July 1931), was a British peer, Royal Navy and British Army officer, cowpuncher, circus clown, and revival meeting singer. Early life Bennet was born at Claridge's Hotel, Brook Street, London on 30 March 1852. He was the second son of Charles Bennet, 6th Earl of Tankerville and Olivia Montagu. His sister, Lady Isa Louise Bennet, was married to John Ramsay, 13th Earl of Dalhousie. His elder brother, Charles, Lord Ossulton, the heir apparent, died, unmarried, of cholera in India on 29 June 1879, while serving with the Rifle Brigade. George was styled Lord Bennet at the time he became heir apparent. As the only surviving son, George succeeded his father as Earl of Tankerville on the death of the latter on 18 December 1899. George John Bennett
George John Bennett (1800–1879) was for nearly 40 years a Shakespearian actor on the London stage, notably Covent Garden and Drury Lane. Life He was the son of the eminent popular comedian George Bennett anHarriet Morland, the daughter of an ancient family in Westmorland (parents: Jacob Morland of Killington, Dorothy Brisco of Kendal, and sister, Lady Shackerley of Somerford Hall). George Augustus Bennett
Captain George Augustus Bennett (6 January 1807 – 30 April 1845) was an English military engineer of the Corps of Royal Engineers, Board of Ordnance. He served in Corfu (1828–1832), on the Ordnance Survey of Ireland (1832–1841), as Commanding Royal Engineer in New Zealand (1842–1845) and first president of the Auckland Mechanics' Institute (1842–1845). Whilst serving in Ireland he devised and implemented the system of contours for Ordnance Survey maps. In the Colony of New Zealand he designed the flagstaff blockhouse central to the Battle of Kororāreka (1845) and other military works. George Bennett (31 January 1804 – 29 September 1893) was an English-born Australian physician and naturalist, winner of the Clarke Medal in 1890. Early life Bennett was born at Plymouth, England. On leaving school at 15 years of age he visited Ceylon and on his return studied for the medical profession, initially at Plymouth, later at the Middlesex Hospital and the Hunterian School of Medicine. He obtained the degree of M.R.C.S. on 7 March 1828, and later became F.R.C.S. Career After qualifying as a physician Bennett obtained employment as a ship's surgeon, and visited Sydney, New South Wales, in 1829. George Bennett (died 23 July 1880) - a Cobourg, Ontario native, whose original surname was "Dickson" - was charged with the murder of George Brown, one of the Fathers of Confederation. List Of Australian Admirals And Commodores
The following is a list of Australians who have attained admiral rank within the Royal Australian Navy (RAN); that is, officers who have held the rank of admiral ( four-star rank), vice admiral ( three-star rank) or rear admiral ( two-star rank). The Commonwealth Naval Forces were established on 1 March 1901, following the Federation of Australia, as Australia's naval force. The service was reorganised and re-titled as the RAN in 1911. William Creswell, regarded as the "father" of the RAN, was the service's first member to attain flag rank on being promoted to rear admiral in 1911; he later also became the first vice admiral (1922). In 1936, Sir George Hyde became the first officer to be promoted to full admiral, one of only six members of the RAN to attain this rank as of July 2023.
