''Geographically Speaking'' was an American travel series that debuted on June 9, 1946, on NBC, and aired Sundays at 8:15 pm EST immediately following the game show '' Face to Face''. Originating at WNBT-TV in New York City, the weekly 15-minute program was one of the first TV shows to have a regular sponsor, Bristol-Myers. The show consisted of hostess Zetta Wells narrating her home movies of her trips with her husband Carveth Wells to unusual and exotic places. When she ran out of home movies, the series ended in December 1946. ''Face to Face'' was an American television game show. It began broadcasting on the NBC Television network on June 9, 1946, and ran until January 26, 1947, on Sundays at 8:00 pm EST, immediately before ''Geographically Speaking''. Overview The concept of the show was for a cartoonist to make a drawing of a person whom he had never seen, based on a description given by other people. Originally, the unseen person was in another room. Later in the show, the person was moved onto the stage, separated from the artist by a curtain. This allowed the audience to see the person's face as the drawing took shape. There were also quiz questions, in which participants had to identify people based on clues. The show featured Eddie Dunn as the interviewer and Bob Dunn as the cartoonist. During the show's run, a woman only identified as "Sugar" joined the cast as "a kind of emcee". A home movie is a short amateur film or video typically made just to preserve a visual record of family activities, a vacation, or a special event, and intended for viewing at home by family and friends. Originally, home movies were made on photographic film in formats that usually limited the movie-maker to about three minutes per roll of costly camera film. The vast majority of amateur film formats lacked audio, shooting silent film. The 1970s saw the advent of consumer camcorders that could record an hour or two of video on one relatively inexpensive videocassette which also had audio and did not need to be developed the way film did. Carveth Wells
Grant Carveth Wells (21 January 1887 — 16 February 1957) was a British adventurer, travel writer, and television personality in the mid-twentieth century. Wells was the author of eighteen travel-related books, including ''Six Years in the Malay Jungle'', ''Road to Shalimar'', and ''North of Singapore''. Wells also produced films, radio and television shows relating to his travels. Biography Wells was born in Surrey, England. He graduated from London University in 1909, with an engineering degree. Kinescopes
Kinescope , shortened to kine , also known as telerecording in Britain, is a recording of a television program on motion picture film, directly through a lens focused on the screen of a video monitor. The process was pioneered during the 1940s for the preservation, re-broadcasting and sale of television programmes before the introduction of quadruplex videotape, which from 1956 eventually superseded the use of kinescopes for all of these purposes. Kinescopes were the only practical way to preserve live television broadcasts prior to videotape. Typically, the term Kinescope can refer to the process itself, the equipment used for the procedure (a movie camera mounted in front of a video monitor, and synchronized to the monitor's scanning rate), or a film made using the process.
