Geoffrey Webb (cricketer)
Arthur Geoffrey Gascoyne Webb (17 August 1896 – 6 April 1981) was an English naval officer, and a cricketer, active from 1919 to 1938 who played for Leicestershire. He was also an amateur artist. Life Webb was born in Kent, at Sittingbourne or Newington, Swale, and was educated at Wellington College. He joined the Royal Navy in 1914, and served during World War I, being present during the battle of Jutland, and reaching the rank of lieutenant in September 1918. Appearing first for a Royal Navy eleven, Webb played in five first-class matches. He was a lefthanded batsman who kept wicket. He scored 123 runs with a highest score of 57 and completed one catch with five stumpings. Webb remained in the navy until 1923 and the Geddes Axe. He then worked as a schoolmaster, teaching cricket. He was a colonial education officer in Nigeria. Leicestershire County Cricket Club
Leicestershire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Leicestershire. It has also been representative of the county of Rutland. The club's limited overs team is called the Leicestershire Foxes. Founded in 1879, the club had minor county status until 1894, when it was promoted to first-class status pending its entry into the County Championship in 1895. Since then, Leicestershire have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. The club is based at Grace Road in Leicester, known as The Uptonsteel County Ground for sponsorship reasons, and has also played home games at Aylestone Road in Leicester, at Hinckley, Loughborough, Melton Mowbray, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Coalville and most recently Kibworth inside the traditional county boundaries of Leicestershire, and at Oakham, in Rutland. Oakham
Oakham is a market town and civil parish in Rutland (of which it is the county town) in the East Midlands of England. The town is located east of Leicester, southeast of Nottingham and northwest of Peterborough. It had a population of 12,149 in the 2021 census. Oakham is to the west of Rutland Water and in the Vale of Catmose. Its height above sea level ranges from .
