Geoffrey Thomas (academic)
Geoffrey Price Thomas Learned Society of Wales, FLSW (born 3 July 1941) was President (college), President of Kellogg College, Oxford, and Director of Oxford University Department for Continuing Education until 2008. He was educated at Maesteg, Maesteg Grammar School, University of Wales (Swansea) (Bachelor of Science, BSc, (First Class Honours, Physics)) and Churchill College, Cambridge (Doctor of Philosophy, PhD). He is also a Master of Arts (Oxbridge), Master of Arts of the University of Oxford. Following one year as a research associate at the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge (1966–67), he became a Staff Tutor at Swansea University, University College of Swansea (1967–78). Debrett's () is a British professional coaching company and publisher and authority on etiquette and behaviour, founded in 1769 with the publication of the first edition of ''The New Peerage''. The company takes its name from its founder, John Debrett. John Debrett John Debrett (8 January 1753 – 15 November 1822) was the London-born son of Jean Louys de Bret, a French cook of Huguenot extraction and his wife Rachel Panchaud. As a boy of thirteen, John Debrett was apprenticed to a Piccadilly bookseller and publisher, Robert Davis. He remained there until 1780, when he moved across Piccadilly to work for John Almon, bookseller and stationer. Sir Douglas Andrew Kilgour Black (29 May 1913 – 13 September 2002) was a Scottish physician and medical scientist who played a key role in the development of the National Health Service. He conducted research in the field of public health and was famous as the author of the Black Report. He was also known for the Black Formula, a translation of the Pignet formula to British measurements. He was born in Delting Shetland in 1913, educated at Forfar Academy, and studied medicine at the Bute Medical School, University of St Andrews, graduating with MB ChB in 1933. The Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) was the Welsh Government Sponsored Body responsible for funding the higher education sector.
