Geoffrey Sim
Geoffrey Fantham Sim (2 April 1911 – 27 March 2002) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party. Biography Sim was born at Ngatapa near Gisborne in 1911. He received his education at Morrinsville, Pukekohe High School, and King's College. At the latter school, he was a lightweight boxing champion. After school, he was a farmer at Waimārama, was involved in felling bush, was a driver in the Onewhero and Thames region, became head shepherd at Crossland Station near Kaipara Harbour, before working as a stock agent in Waiuku. In World War II, he served in the Middle East. At Sidi Rezegh, he lost an eye, an arm, and the use of one leg. While he was in hospital, he became a prisoner of war. He returned to New Zealand in 1943. The National Party nominated him in the Rotorua electorate for the , where he was successful. Alexander Moncur
Alexander Francis Moncur (8 March 1888 – 16 June 1976) was a New Zealand politician of the Labour Party. Biography Moncur was born in Melbourne in 1888, and arrived in New Zealand in 1906. He was a miner on the West Coast and Waihi, then in 1910 joined the New Zealand Railways as a guard. He was in the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, and was Auckland branch president 1912–1921. He worked at Rotorua, and owned a taxi business at Whakatane where he became a Borough Councillor 1925–1935. He was the unsuccessful Labour candidate for the Bay of Plenty electorate in 1928, running against Kenneth Williams who had been returned unopposed in 1922 and 1925 (and was again unopposed in 1931). He then ran for the Rotorua electorate in 1931. He represented the Rotorua electorate from 1935 to 1943, when he was defeated by Geoffrey Sim. He was in the RNZAF 1941–1942. John Finlay Luxton (14 August 1923 – 29 August 2005) was a dairy farmer and New Zealand Member of parliament, Member of Parliament. Biography Luxton was born in 1923 in Waitoa, between Morrinsville and Te Aroha. He attended the local primary school, followed by Hamilton's Fraser High School, Hamilton Technical College. After leaving school, he was a dairy farmer in Waitoa. He became prominent in the Waikato branch of Federated Farmers, serving as dominion councillor before his election to Parliament. He continued a family involvement with the Tatua Dairy Company as a director for several years. Piako was a New Zealand parliamentary electorate established in 1946 and disestablished in 2008. It was last held by Lindsay Tisch MP from 2002 to 2008. Population centres The 1941 New Zealand census had been postponed due to World War II, so the 1946 electoral redistribution had to take ten years of population growth and movements into account. The North Island gained a further two electorates from the South Island due to faster population growth.
