Geoffrey J. Hughes (born 1939) is a former Australian tennis player who became active in 1961 until he retired in 1962. Career He reached the quarter-finals at the 1962 French Championships, he played the qualifications with John Newcombe in men's singles in 8–6, 6–3, 6–3 then with Italian Nicola Pietrangeli (2–6, 6–0, 0–6, 3–6). Hughes also played at the Queen's Club Championships such as cities in Brussels, Monte Carlo, Rome, in Germany and Pays-Bas. He also played the titles with Noel Holland in August 1961 at Le Touquet, France and finals with Barry Phillips-Moore Barry Phillips-Moore (born 9 June 1938) is an Australian former tennis player of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Geoffrey Hughes (actor)
Geoffrey Hughes DL (2 February 1944 – 27 July 2012) was an English actor. Hughes provided the voice of Paul McCartney in the animated film '' Yellow Submarine'' (1968), and rose to fame for portraying much-loved bin man Eddie Yeats in the long-running British soap opera ''Coronation Street'' from 1974 to 1983, making a return to the show in 1987. He is well known for playing loveable slob Onslow in the British sitcom '' Keeping Up Appearances'' (1990–1995); and 'Twiggy' in the sitcom '' The Royle Family'', playing the part from 1998 to 2000, and reprising his role for the specials in 2006 and 2008. From 2001 to 2005 he played Vernon Scripps, conman and loveable rogue, in the ITV police drama ''Heartbeat'', taking over as the show's main loveable rogue from Bill Maynard's Claude Greengrass, and returning to the show briefly in 2007. Geoffrey Forrest Hughes
Geoffrey Forrest Hughes, (12 July 1895 – 13 September 1951) was an Australian aviator and flying ace of the First World War. He was credited with 11 aerial victories, and won a Military Cross for his valour. After a postwar award of the Air Force Cross, he returned to Australia and completed university. He became a businessman and a solicitor in the family law firm while retaining his interests in aviation. From 1925 through 1934, he was president of the Royal Australian Aero Club, and largely responsible for government support of the club. Despite his business concerns, he returned to military duty during the Second World War. He commanded an aviation training school and rose to the rank of group captain before surrendering his commission in April 1943.
