Geoffrey Du Mhango
Geoffrey L du Mhango is a Malawian economist, author, and politician. He was born in Karonga in the northern part of Malawi. He worked as a Senior development economist at the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) based in Johannesburg, South Africa for 10 years from 1987 to 1998 and for the ministry of foreign affairs in Malawi. His interests are in creating an integrated planning model for investment in urban infrastructure and pricing municipal services. He is a member of the Karonga Natural Resources Development Committee that is charged with overseeing the infrastructure and environmental impact being as a result of a uranium mining venture by Australian company, Paladin Energyin Malawi. The Alliance for Democracy is a political party in Malawi that marked its history as laying the foundation for multi-party rule in Malawi. Chakufwa Chihana
Chakufwa Chihana (23 April 1939 – 12 June 2006) was a Malawian human rights activist, pro-democracy advocate, trade unionist and later, politician. He held the post of Second Vice President in Malawi, under President Bakili Muluzi. He is often called the 'father of Malawian democracy'. He served as leader of Malawi's first underground political movement, which urged President Hastings Kamuzu Banda, who had ruled for three decades, to call for a referendum on political pluralism. He was awarded the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award in 1992. Early life and career Chihana was born in Mhuju Village, Kawiluwilu, in the Northern Region of Nyasaland (Colonial Malawi). Karonga
Karonga is a township in the Karonga District in Northern Region of Malawi. Located on the western shore of Lake Nyasa, it was established as a slaving centre sometime before 1877. As of 2018 estimates, Karonga has a population of 61,609. Bazuka Michael Kalwefu Mhango (born 19 March 1939) is a Malawian lawyer, educator and politician. He was born in Kasole Village in Karonga District, Northern Region, Malawi. He worked as a Science and Mathematics teacher at Livingstonia Secondary School in Rumphi before he became a lawyer and active in politics and public administration. Du Chisiza
Dunduzu Chisiza Junior (26 March 1963 – 24 February 1999) was a Malawian playwright, director and actor and founder of the first professional theatre company in Malawi, the Wakhumbata Ensemble Theatre. He wrote more than 20 plays and was involved in the writing and directing of some 25 others. Many of his plays had a political and human rights message during the one party state under Banda. He was the son of the prominent Malawian activist and politician Dunduzu Chisiza. Early life Chisiza was the third son of Dunduzu K. Chisiza, a prominent activist of Malawian Independence who was killed in 1962 six months before Du's birth.
