Geoff Matthews
Geoffrey Leonard Matthews (widely known as Geoff Matthews) (September 1946 – 24 January 2015) was an English car designer who designed cars for manufacturers, including Chrysler, Talbot and Citroën. Early life Matthews was born to Joan, who had conceived him with Charlie Mann, a Canadian serviceman based in England while awaiting return to his home country at the end of World War II. Unwilling to raise a child who would be stigmatised as illegitimate, and with Mann now gone, Joan arranged for Matthews to be adopted; he grew up in a family of farm labourers that picked hops for a living. He won a place at grammar school, then went on to study car design at the Royal College of Art. The Citroën XM is an executive car manufactured and marketed by Citroën from 1989 to 2000. Voted 1990 European Car of the Year for its contributions in terms of design and technological innovation, it was the first production automobile in the world to be equipped with electronically controlled hydropneumatic suspension. Coventry University is a Public university, public research university in Coventry, England. The origins of Coventry University can be linked to the Coventry School of Art and Design, Coventry School of Design in 1843. Connaught Motor Company is a British manufacturer of high-performance hybrid technology cars, best known for the Type D hybrid sports car concept. The company was founded by ex-Jaguar engineers Tim Bishop and Tony Martindale in 2004. Due to a lack of funds, the company was closed in 2016, and was later bought by Welsh engineering firm BDI. Henry Royce
Sir Frederick Henry Royce, 1st Baronet (27 March 1863 – 22 April 1933) was an English engineer famous for his designs of car and aeroplane engines with a reputation for reliability and longevity. With Charles Rolls (1877–1910) and Claude Johnson (1864–1926), he founded Rolls-Royce. Rolls-Royce initially focused on large 40–50 horsepower motor cars, the Silver Ghost and its successors. Royce produced his first aero engine shortly after the outbreak of the First World War, and aircraft engines became Rolls-Royce's principal product. Royce's health broke down in 1911, and he was persuaded to leave his factory in the Midlands at Derby and, taking a team of designers, move to the south of England spending winters in the south of France.
