Genuine (film)
''Genuine'' (original German title: ''Genuine, die Tragödie eines seltsamen Hauses''; literally: ''Genuine, the tragedy of a strange house'') is a 1920 German silent horror film directed by Robert Wiene. It was also released as ''Genuine: A Tale of a Vampire''. Director Wiene created ''Genuine'' as a follow-up to his massively successful film '' The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari'', using the same writer and cinematographer who had worked on the earlier film. Robert Wiene (; 27 April 1873 – 17 July 1938) was a German film director, screenwriter and Film producer, producer, active during the Silent film, silent era. He is widely-known for directing the landmark 1920 film ''The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari'' and a succession of other German expressionist cinema, expressionist films. Wiene also directed a variety of other films of varying styles and genres. Following the Nazi rise to power in Germany, Wiene, who was of Jewish descent, fled into exile. Louis Brody (born Ludwig M'bebe Mpessa; 15 February 1896 – 11 February 1951) was a Cameroonian-born German film actor, musician and showfighter. Brody was born in Douala, in the German colony of Kamerun. His career began in the 1910s after he moved to Germany and lasted uninterrupted throughout the Nazi regime till his death in 1951. Brody engaged also in political work in favour of Afro-Germans as part of the African Aid Organisation, established by and for Afro-Germans living in Germany and was co-founder and president of the '' Liga zur Verteidigung der Negerrasse''.
