Gennari - Illustration Of A Human Brain
The Gennari family is an ancient Italian noble family with roots tracing back the Middle Ages, with documented mentions of the family dating as far back as the 13th century. Originating from Rome, and present in many Italian regions particularly Emilia-Romagna (Parma, Modena, Bologna, and Cento) and with branches in Turin, Genova and Valle Vigezzo, the Gennari family has made significant contributions to various fields, including art, architecture, and cultural patronage. Branches Gennari Curlo A branch of the Gennari family is the Gennari Curlo line. The Gennari Curlo family from Turin (branch from Genova), and the Curlo family now resident in Cuneo and Taggia (branch from Taggia), are the last descendants of the Curlo family. In 1911 the "Elenco uofficiale della nobilta Italiana" distinguishes five branches of the family, with the senior branch patricians (nobles) of Genoa, and the other two nobles of Taggia. Line Of Gennari
The line of Gennari (also called the "band" or "stria" of Gennari) is a band of myelinated axons that runs parallel to the surface of the cerebral cortex on the banks of the calcarine fissure in the occipital lobe. This formation is visible to the naked eye as a white strip running through the cortical grey matter, and is the reason the V1 in primates is also referred to as the "striate cortex." The line of Gennari is due to dense axonal input from the thalamus to layer IV of visual cortex. It is the name given to the enlarged external band of Baillarger. The structure is named for its discoverer, Francesco Gennari, who first observed it in 1776 as a medical student at the University of Parma. He described it in a book which he published six years later. Although non-primate species have areas that are designated primary visual cortex, some (if not all) lack a stria of Gennari.Zilles and Wree. ''Isocortex'' in Paxinos (Ed.) Francesco Gennari (born 4 October 1750 di Langhirano; died 4 December 1797) was an Italian anatomist. He is known for line of Gennari, a macroscopically white band seen in the cerebral cortex of the occipital lobe, which he observed on 2 February 1776 in the course of examining frozen sections of unstained human brain during his study in medical school. He mentioned it in his book ''De peculiari structura cerebri, nonnulisque ejus morbis'', and referred to it as ''lineola albidior''.
