Genista McIntosh
Genista Mary "Jenny" McIntosh, Baroness McIntosh of Hudnall (born 23 September 1946), is a British arts consultant, theatre executive and Labour politician. Born Genista Mary Tandy, she was the daughter of Geoffrey Tandy and his wife Maire née MacDermott, and was educated at the University of York. In 1971 she married Neil Scott Wishart McIntosh. They had one son and a daughter, and were later divorced. McIntosh worked for the Royal Shakespeare Company as casting director between 1972 and 1977, as planning controller between 1977 and 1984, as senior administrator from 1986, and as associate producer in 1990. She was executive director of the Royal National Theatre from 1990 to 1996 and from 1997 to 2002. In 1997 she was appointed chief executive of the Royal Opera House, but resigned after five months due to ill health. Royal Opera House
The Royal Opera House (ROH) is a theatre in Covent Garden, central London. The building is often referred to as simply Covent Garden, after a previous use of the site. The ROH is the main home of The Royal Opera, The Royal Ballet, and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House (now known collectively as the Royal Ballet and Opera). The first theatre on the site, the Theatre Royal (1732), served primarily as a playhouse for the first hundred years of its history. In 1734, the first ballet was presented. A year later, the first season of operas, by George Frideric Handel, began. Many of his operas and oratorios were specifically written for Covent Garden and had their premieres there. Life Peer
In the United Kingdom, life peers are appointed members of the peerage whose titles cannot be inherited, in contrast to hereditary peers. Life peers are appointed by the monarch on the advice of the prime minister. With the exception of the Dukedom of Edinburgh awarded for life to Prince Edward in 2023, all life peerages conferred since 2009 have been created under the Life Peerages Act 1958 with the rank of baron, and entitle their holders to sit and vote in the House of Lords so long as they meet qualifications such as age and citizenship. The legitimate children of a life peer appointed under the Life Peerages Act 1958 are entitled to style themselves with the prefix "The Honourable", although they cannot inherit the peerage. The National Theatre (NT), officially the Royal National Theatre and sometimes referred to in international contexts as the National Theatre of Great Britain, is a performing arts venue and associated theatre company located in London, England, adjacent to (but not part of) the Southbank Centre. The senior deputy speaker is an officer of the House of Lords whose main role is to preside over the house when it is in committee (i.e., considering a bill at committee stage), either in the Lords Chamber or in Grand Committee, which is when committee stage is taken away from the floor to free up debating time in the main chamber. Established in 1963, the university has expanded to more than thirty departments and centres, covering a wide range of subjects.
