General Postal Administration
China Post, officially the China Post Group Corporation, is the national postal service corporation of the People's Republic of China. It is incorporated as a state-owned enterprise. China Post shares its office with the sub-ministry-level government agency State Post Bureau, which regulates the national postal industry. History The current postal service of People's Republic of China was established in 1949. It replaced the Chunghwa Post in mainland China in 1949, as well as in the Universal Postal Union in 1972. It was formerly administered by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is the sixth-ranked executive department of the State Council of the People's Republic of China. The Universal Postal Union (UPU, ) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that coordinates postal policies among member nations and facilitates a uniform worldwide postal system. It has 192 member states and is headquartered in Bern, Switzerland. Established in 1874 as the General Postal Union, the UPU is among the oldest extant intergovernmental organizations. It sought to standardize international mail delivery by establishing a uniform postal rate and equal treatment between domestic and foreign mail. The organization adopted its current name in 1878. The State Post Bureau is the government agency that regulates China Post, the postal service of China. The agency was created in 1998 as a successor to the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications. The agency used to report to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and is now under the administration of the Ministry of Transport. The bureau is headed by the Director-General.
