Brigadier-General Alfred Douglas Miller, (1 March 1864 − 5 December 1933) was a British Army officer. Early life Miller was the son of Lieutenant-Colonel James Miller (1829−1909), late 11th Hussars, of Shotover Park#Shotover Park, Shotover Park, Wheatley, Oxfordshire, Magistrate (England and Wales), JP, Deputy lieutenant, DL, High Sheriff of Oxfordshire#19th century, High Sheriff of Oxfordshire in 1880, and Sarah Dorothy (d. 1911), daughter of Thomas Moore Evans. The Miller family were, in previous generations, merchants in Scotland, with James Miller's father, Alexander, coming to own Ashford, Surrey, Ashford Hall, Middlesex. William Miller (2 December 1795 – 31 October 1861), better known as Guillermo Miller, was an English-born army officer and diplomat who served in the Peninsular War and the Spanish American wars of independence. Biography Born December 2, 1795 in Wingham, Kent, Miller was fluent in several languages by the age of seventeen, when he enrolled in the British army to fight in the Napoleonic Wars, taking part in the Siege of Badajoz (1812), Siege of Badajoz and Battle of Vittoria under the Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, Duke of Wellington. In September 1817, hearing of the wars in Latin America, he set sail for Buenos Aires to join José de San Martín, San Martín's Army of the Andes. William Miller (Confederate Army Officer)
William Miller (August 3, 1820 – August 8, 1909) was an American soldier, attorney, timberman, and politician. He served as a general in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. One of the few Northern-born Confederate generals, he led the reserve troops of the state of Florida and helped win one of the South's last victories of the war at the Battle of Natural Bridge. Biography Miller was born in Ithaca, New York, but moved to Louisiana with his family while still a young child. He attended Louisiana College. He was a veteran of the Mexican–American War, serving in the army of Zachary Taylor and was awarded by the government for his service with of land in Florida. James Miller (April 25, 1776 – July 7, 1851) was a senior officer of the United States Army who commanded infantry in the Canadian Theater of the War of 1812. After the war, he served as the first governor of Arkansas Territory from 1819 to 1824. He also served as the superintendent of Indian affairs for the territory. It was during his term as governor, and partly due to his influence, that the territory's capital was moved from Arkansas Post to Little Rock. Charles Miller (June 15, 1843 – December 21, 1927) was a Pennsylvania businessman, philanthropist and Major General of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. He commanded the organization now known as the 28th Infantry Division and was a founder of the Galena-Signal Oil Company, which later became part of the Standard Oil combine, and then part of the corporations now known as Texaco and Valvoline. Early life Charles Miller was born in Oberhoffen-sur-Moder, Alsace, France, on June 15, 1843. His family emigrated to the United States in 1855, settling in Boston, New York. Miller began a business career by clerking in stores and working as a sewing machine salesman. In 1861 he joined the New York National Guard's Company A, 74th Infantry Regiment.
