Gas Turbine
A gas turbine, also called a combustion turbine, is a type of continuous flow internal combustion engine. The main parts common to all gas turbine engines form the power-producing part (known as the gas generator or core) and are, in the direction of flow: * a rotating gas compressor * a combustor * a compressor-driving turbine. Additional components have to be added to the gas generator to suit its application. Common to all is an air inlet but with different configurations to suit the requirements of marine use, land use or flight at speeds varying from stationary to supersonic. A propelling nozzle is added to produce thrust for flight. An extra turbine is added to drive a propeller ( turboprop) or ducted fan (turbofan) to reduce fuel consumption (by increasing propulsive efficiency) at subsonic flight speeds. An extra turbine is also required to drive a helicopter rotor or land-vehicle transmission ( turboshaft), marine propeller or electrical generator (power turbine). Grea ... HSC Stena Explorer
''One World Karadeniz'' (previously ''Stena Explorer'') is a former high-speed ferry that operated Stena Line's Holyhead– Dún Laoghaire service between Great Britain and Ireland until 2014. It is a member of the HSS 1500 class of high-speed ferries introduced and developed by Stena Line from 1996 onwards. The HSS 1500 class vessels became the largest catamarans in service in the world. In 2015 the ferry was owned by Karadeniz Holding to be used as a floating office, research space and alternative power generator in Karmarine shipyard in Yalova near Istanbul, Turkey, as part of the ''Powerships'' project from the company that owned the vessel. However, in 2016 the vessel was on sale for as low as 6.5 Million Dollars. Design and construction ''Stena Explorer'' was constructed by Finnyards in Rauma, Finland, at a cost £65million. Construction commenced in June 1994 and was completed in February 1996, before entering service in April 1996. The vessel is a catamaran, and was ... General Electric LMS100
The General Electric LMS100 (Land Marine Supercharged) is an aero derivative gas turbine produced by GE Distributed Power. Design and development The LMS100 PA produces approximately 100 MW at an efficiency of around 46% LHV in open cycle operation. It is currently the largest and most efficient aero-derivative gas turbine. It is able to produce full rated power in under 10 minutes. The LMS100 comprises a low-pressure compressor, an intercooler, a supercore and a power turbine. The supercore (comprising a HP compressor, compressor rear frame, high-pressure turbine and intermediate pressure turbine) is a further development of the LM6000, which in turn was based on the CF6-80C2. The low-pressure compressor is from the 6FA industrial gas turbine. The first LMS100 engine entered commercial operation in July 2006 and a second unit in 2008. Other operational LMS100 power stations are at Laredo, TX (USA), El Paso, TX (USA), Firebaugh, CA (USA), Waterbury, CT (USA), Santiago ... General Electric LM6000
The General Electric LM6000 is a turboshaft aeroderivative gas turbine engine. The LM6000 is derived from the CF6-80C2 aircraft turbofan. It has additions and modifications designed to make it more suitable for marine propulsion, industrial power generation, and marine power generation use. These include an expanded turbine section to convert thrust into shaft power, supports and struts for mounting on a steel or concrete deck, and reworked controls packages for power generation. It has found wide use including peaking power plants, fast ferries and high speed cargo ship applications. Design and development The LM6000 provides from either end of the low-pressure rotor system, which rotates at 3,600 rpm. This twin spool design with the low pressure turbine operating at 60 Hz, the dominant electrical frequency in North America, eliminates the need for a conventional power turbine. Its high efficiency and installation flexiility make it ideal also for a wide variety of utility po ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

General Electric LM2500
The General Electric LM2500 is an industrial and marine gas turbine produced by GE Aviation. The LM2500 is a derivative of the General Electric CF6 aircraft engine. As of 2004, the U.S. Navy and at least 29 other navies had used a total of more than one thousand LM2500/LM2500+ gas turbines to power warships. Other uses include hydrofoils, hovercraft and fast ferries. In 2012, GE developed an FPSO version to serve the oil and gas industry's demand for a lighter, more compact version to generate electricity and drive compressors to send natural gas through pipelines. Design and development The LM2500 was first used on the US Navy in 1969, after the original FT-4 gas turbines experienced many technical problems. Later, they were used in US Navy warships in the of destroyers and the related , which were constructed from 1970. In this configuration it was rated to . This configuration was subsequently used into the 1980s in the s, and s. It was also used by one of People's ... General Electric CF6
The General Electric CF6, US military designations F103 and F138, is a family of high-bypass turbofan engines produced by GE Aviation. Based on the TF39, the first high-power high-bypass jet engine, the CF6 powers a wide variety of civilian airliners. The basic engine core also powers the LM2500 and LM6000 marine and power generation turboshafts. It is gradually being replaced by the newer GEnx family. Development After developing the TF39 for the C-5 Galaxy in the late 1960s, GE offered a more powerful variant for civilian use, the CF6, and quickly found interest in two designs being offered for a recent Eastern Airlines contract, the Lockheed L-1011 and the McDonnell Douglas DC-10. Lockheed eventually selected the Rolls-Royce RB211, but the latter stuck with the CF6 and entered service in 1971. It was also selected for versions of the Boeing 747. Since then, the CF6 has powered versions of the Airbus A300, A310 and A330, Boeing 767, and McDonnell Douglas M ... Mols-Linien
(previously called ) is a Danish company that operates ferry services between Jutland (Jylland) and the island of Zealand (Sjælland). In March 2017, the routes in the Kattegat were renamed to Molslinjen, while the Bornholms services would continue to trade as Bornholmslinjen. History Mols-Linien was formed by DFDS in 1964 sailings commenced on 18 May 1966. A downturn in traffic following the 1973 oil crisis led Mols-Linien into a pooling agreement with rival Grenaa-Hundested Linien in 1979. In 1984 DFDS sold Mols-Linien and Grenaa-Hundested Linien to J. Lauritzen A/S. The company was sold 4 years later to Danish investment company DIFKO. In 1999 Mols-Linien merged with Scandlines subsidiary Cat-Link. Scandlines sold its holding to the Clipper Group in 2008. In July 2011 Mols-Linien announced it was to terminate the Kalundborg – Aarhus route and sell the two vessels operating the route.
