Gen Fricker
Genevieve Fricker (born 3 November 1989) is an Australian stand-up comedian, writer, actor, and radio presenter. Early life and education Fricker was born in Sydney, Australia, and Māori Australians, has Māori heritage. She trained as an orchestral double bassist at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music High School and University, before moving to the University of Sydney to study Art History and Psychology. At the University of Sydney, she performed as part of student comedy group "Project 52", alongside Steen Raskopoulos among others. Later, Fricker trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York City, New York. Career In 2011, Gen Fricker was a National Finalist in the Raw Comedy, RAW Comedy Competition. She co-hosted ''Summer Up For It'' on FBi Radio with comedian Michael Hing over the summer break in 2011–2012. ''The Roast'' was a flagship Australian satirical news show that screened on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) television channel ABC2. The daily ten-minute show was hosted by Tom Glasson and featured Mark Humphries, Clarke Richards, Alex Lee, Jazz Twemlow and Nich Richardson. ''The Roast'' began life online as a one-minute, news headlines show in 2011. It expanded to a two-minute series in 2012 which also screened on ABC2. ''Spicks and Specks'' is an Australian music-themed comedic television quiz show in which the host, Adam Hills, asks two teams, of three people each, varying music-themed questions in different games. Team leaders are Myf Warhurst and Alan Brough. Members of each team vary from episode to episode; one per team generally comes from the world of music and the other from comedy. Scores are kept, but the prize for the winners is simply personal satisfaction. Many games are named after, or otherwise reference, well known song titles. The Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) is the largest stand-alone comedy festival and the second-largest international comedy festival in the world. Established in 1987, it takes place annually in Melbourne over four weeks, typically starting in March and running through to April. The Sydney Comedy Festival is an annual comedy festival held in Sydney. Launched in 2005 as The Cracker Sydney Comedy Festival at a number of inner city venues, the Festival has grown quickly and now attracts 111,000 patrons every year at venues all across Sydney. The Sydney Comedy Awards were introduced in 2008, to celebrate excellence in the Sydney Comedy Festival.
