GeenPeil
GeenPeil ( Dutch "no poll") is a political initiative by GeenStijl ("no style" or "without style"), a Dutch weblog and political party known for its provocative content and its past hoaxes. The name refers to polling results. First initiative 2014 GeenStijl organized its first GeenPeil initiative during the 2014 European Parliament elections which were held between 22 and 25 May 2014 within the European Union. Being among the first to vote on May 22, Dutch municipalities were not allowed to publish the results of the election before those of the other EU members were known. Because the ''Dutch Electoral Act'' states that the chairman of every polling station has to read the electoral results out loud, if requested to do so, GeenStijl found 1,442 volunteers willing to register and call-in the results of nearly every polling station within the country. GeenStijl
GeenStijl is a Dutch blog founded on 10 April 2003. The logo is a pink coloured crown within a circle. In the Dutch language, the term "geen stijl" (literal translation: no style) is used to describe an act by a person or organisation that lacks style or manners. GeenStijl often uses a provocative tone when referring to other Internet sites and blogs. Commenters on the site are called ''reaguurders'' which is a portmanteau of the Dutch verb ''reageren'' (meaning reacting/commenting) and the adjective ''guur'' (meaning cold/unfriendly). Famously, in March 2005 GeenStijl launched a plan to unseat the second Balkenende cabinet. GeenStijl announced on their website that they would bus people from all over the country to Rotterdam, where one of the cabinet parties was holding a convention. These people could sign up as new party members at the convention, and vote against the party's participation in the cabinet. 2016 Dutch Ukraine–European Union Association Agreement Referendum
An advisory referendum on the approval of the Ukraine–European Union Association Agreement was held in the Netherlands on 6 April 2016. The referendum question was: "Are you for or against the Approval Act of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine?" With a turnout of 32.28%, the threshold for a valid referendum was met. 61% of the votes cast were against the Approval Act, and 38.2% in favour. This accounted for 19.5% of eligible voters voting against and 12.2% voting in favour. As the Act was rejected, the States General has to enact a follow-up law to either repeal the Act or put it into effect after all. The referendum is the first since the enactment of the Advisory Referendum Act (''Wet raadgevend referendum'') on 1 July 2015, with the Dutch tapping law referendum in 2018 to be the second. Jan Roos (journalist)
Jan Roos (; born 27 January 1977) is a Dutch journalist and former politician and activist. Career Roos worked for the PowNed public broadcasting association, where he made reports for the daily PowNews news program. He also made the radio programme ''Echte Jannen'' for PowNed. Roos used to be a reporter for BNR Nieuwsradio. He later worked for the Dutch self described "politically incorrect" blog GeenStijl.GeenPeil-referendum gaat door, '' NOS'', 14 October 2015. In 2015 Jan Roos was the campaign leader for GeenPeil, a campaign which got a referendum on the EU-Association Treaty with Ukraine on the books. During this campaign Jan Roos often wore a sailor cap. Laurens Jan Brinkhorst (born 18 March 1937) is a retired Dutch politician and diplomat of the Democrats 66 (D66) party and jurist. Early life and education Laurens-Jan Brinkhorst was born in the city of Zwolle. His parents were Marius Jacobus Brinkhorst (1902 - 1943) and Françoise Laurence Wilhelmina Holboom (1901 - 1981). After getting his high school diploma (''gymnasium-B-diploma'' in Dutch) he studied law at the University of Leiden (''Rijksuniversiteit Leiden'' in Dutch), where he obtained his LL.M. degree in 1959. Antonius Adrianus Gerardus Maria "Ronald" van Raak (born 30 October 1969) is a Dutch politician, non-fiction writer and former academic. A member of the Socialist Party, he has been a member of the House of Representatives since 30 November 2006. All of these parties claim to uphold some form of socialism, though they may have very different interpretations of what "socialism" means. Fatma Koşer Kaya (born February 20, 1968 in Çarşamba, Turkey) is a Dutch lawyer and politician of Turkish origin. Democrats 66
Democrats 66 (; abbreviated D66, ) is a social liberal political party in the Netherlands, which positions itself in the centre of the political spectrum. It is a member of the Liberal International (LI) and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE). The name of the party refers to its year of foundation, 1966. Initially, its main objective had been to democratise the Dutch political system, but it developed a broader social liberal ideology over time. In the 1967 general election, the party won 7 out of 150 seats in the House of Representatives. No new party had ever gained that many seats before.
