Geaux Rocket Ride (April 4, 2020 – November 1, 2023) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the Grade I Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park in 2023 as a three-year-old. Background Geaux Rocket Ride was a bay colt that was bred in Kentucky, United States by OXO Equine in 2020. He was sired by Argentine-bred Candy Ride, winner of the 2003 Grade I Pacific Classic Stakes. Geaux Rocket Ride earned Candy Ride his 18th Group 1/Grade I victory. Candy Ride (foaled September 27, 1999 in Argentina) is a retired Thoroughbred Horse racing, racehorse who went undefeated in six starts on both turf and dirt racing surfaces in Argentina and the United States. In Argentina, he won the Gran Premio San Isidro and the Gran Premio Joaquín S. de Anchorena, Gran Premio Joaquin S. de Anchorena, setting a world record of 1:31.01 for 1,600 meters on the turf in the latter. The Affirmed Stakes is a Listed American thoroughbred horse race for three-year-old horses over a distance of miles on the dirt held at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California in late-June. The race currently offers a purse of $100,000. History The inaugural running of the event was on 30 June 1979 at Hollywood Park Racetrack as the Silver Screen Handicap at a distance of miles and was won by the promising three year old Valdez who won by 10 lengths, which continues to be the longest winning margin in the event. The event inherited the grading classification which was Grade II from the Argonaut Handicap which some sources believe is the predecessor to the event. Herbager (1956 – 25 March 1976) was a French Thoroughbred racehorse and an influential sire in both France and the United States. Background Herbager was sired by Vandale, a stayer who won the 1946 Prix du Conseil Municipal and whom Herbager helped make the 1959 Leading sire in France. His dam was Flagette (by Escamillo), who was inbred 2x2 to St. Leger winner Firdaussi, meaning both her parents were sired by him. During his racing career he was owned by Simone Del Duca and trained by Pierre Pelat. Racing career Herbager made two starts at age two, finishing second once and winning the Prix Seraphine. At age three, he was the best colt in his age group in France, winning important races including the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and the Classic French Derby in which he earned a Timeform rating of 136. Fappiano (May 19, 1977 – September 3, 1990) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse whose most important win was the 1981 Metropolitan Handicap. When retired to stud, he became a major sire whose offspring included Kentucky Derby winner Unbridled. He was named for Joseph C. Nichols (1905–1984), a long-time sportswriter for ''The New York Times'', who was born Giuseppe Carmine Fappiano. Candy Stripes (April 12, 1982 – February 28, 2007) was an American thoroughbred race horse and sire. A descendant of the great Nearco through his sire, Blushing Groom, he was out of the mare Bubble Company, a granddaughter of the 20th Century's greatest sire of sires, Northern Dancer. Candy Stripes is best known as the sire of 2007 American Horse of the Year, Invasor (horse), Invasor, and the 2005 American Champion Male Turf Horse, Leroidesanimaux.
