Gaylord Lloyd
Gaylord Fraser Lloyd (March 20, 1888 – September 1, 1943http://death-records.mooseroots.com/l/206807310/Gaylord-Fraser-Lloyd ) was an actor and assistant director, known for ''Dodge Your Debts'' (1921), ''Trolley Troubles'' (1921) and ''Why Worry?'' (1923). He was the older brother of actor Harold Lloyd. He was married to Barbara Starr. He was born in Burchard, Nebraska, and died in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California. He and his more famous brother looked very much alike, which allowed Gaylord to occasionally serve as a double for Harold. In the 1920 comedy ''His Royal Slyness ''His Royal Slyness'' is a 1920 American short comedy film featuring Harold Lloyd. Harold Clayton Lloyd, Sr. (April 20, 1893 – March 8, 1971) was an American actor, comedian, and stunt performer who appeared in many silent comedy films.Obituary '' Variety'', March 10, 1971, page 55. One of the most influential film comedians of the silent film era, Lloyd made nearly 200 comedy films, both silent and " talkies", between 1914 and 1947. His bespectacled "Glass" character was a resourceful, ambitious go-getter who matched the zeitgeist of the 1920s-era United States. His films frequently contained "thrill sequences" of extended chase scenes and daredevil physical feats. Lloyd hanging from the hands of a clock high above the street (dangerous, but risk exaggerated by camera angles) in '' Safety Last!'' (1923) is considered one of the most enduring images in cinema. ''Number, Please?'' is a 1920 American short comedy film directed by Hal Roach and Fred C. Newmeyer featuring Harold Lloyd. Plot While at an amusement park, trying vainly to forget the girl he has lost, a young man (Lloyd) sees the girl (Mildred Davis) with her new boyfriend (Roy Brooks). When her dog gets loose in the park, both suitors have to help her catch it. The girl's uncle, a balloonist, gives her a pass for two in his balloon, provided that her mother approves. ''Never Weaken'' is a 1921 American silent comedy film starring Harold Lloyd and directed by Fred Newmeyer. It was Lloyd's last short film, running to three reels, before he moved permanently into feature-length production. It was also one of his trademark 'thrill' comedies, featuring him dangling from a tall building. Lloyd and his crew honed and perfected their "thrill" filming techniques in this film, and put them to use in the 1923 feature '' Safety Last!'' ''Trolley Troubles'' is a 1927 animated short subject film, produced by Charles Mintz and George Winkler and directed by Walt Disney. The cartoon is the first appearance of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, a character that Disney and Ub Iwerks created for Universal Pictures and Charles B. Mintz. History In the early summer of 1927, Walt Disney finished the first Oswald cartoon, entitled '' Poor Papa''. However, Universal was not very satisfied. They had expected a more Charlie Chaplin-like character and thought Oswald was too elderly and too fat. Disney agreed to make some changes and the cartoon was not released in theatres at the time. Instead, Oswald's second-produced cartoon was submitted for release: ''Trolley Troubles''. Universal was pleased and the short was released by Universal on September 5, 1927.
