Julián Gayarre
Sebastián Julián Gayarre Garjón (9 January 1844 in Roncal, Navarre, Spain – 2 January 1890 in Madrid, Spain), better known as Julián Gayarre, was a Spanish opera singer who created the role of Marcello in Donizetti's '' Il Duca d'Alba'' and Enzo in Ponchielli's '' La Gioconda''. Although he faced strong competition for this title from the likes of Roberto Stagno, Italo Campanini, Angelo Masini and Francesco Tamagno, Gayarre was regarded by many late 19th-century music commentators as being the supreme Italianate tenor of his generation. Biography The man who was to become one of Europe's most celebrated singers was born and raised in a Navarre family in the small Pyrenean town of Roncal. José María Gayarre
José María Gayarre Lafuente (8 February 1893 – 8 February 1968) was a Spanish journalist, football pioneer, and sports leader. Despite never playing football, he was one of the most important figures in the amateur beginnings of this sport in Zaragoza, being noted for his prominent role in promoting football in the city and for founding and presiding over the first football clubs in the region, such as ''Sociedad Gimnástica Zaragozana'' in 1912 and Iberia Sport Club in 1917, and later Real Zaragoza in 1932, holding the presidency for two years. He was also the fundamental head behind the foundation of Aragonese Football Federation in 1922, which he also presided. He also worked as a referee in some of those first football matches in Zaragoza. Charles-Étienne Arthur Gayarré (January 9, 1805 – February 11, 1895) was an American historian, attorney, and politician born to a Spanish and French Creole planter family in New Orleans, Louisiana. Gayarré composed plays, essays, and novels. He also wrote histories of Louisiana and penned an exposé of U.S. Army general James Wilkinson, whom he outed as a Spanish spy in 1854.
