Gawler West, (postcode 5118) is a suburb of the South Australian town of Gawler, located in the northern Adelaide metropolitan area region, 43 km north of Adelaide. It is bordered by the Gawler River and the Gawler railway line and the suburbs of Gawler South, and Evanston. During the 2000s period, part of the suburb was renamed Reid by the South Australian Geographical Names Advisory Committee, replacing the Gawler Bypass Road as the western boundary by the Gawler River on the west and north. History Gawler West is a subdivision of the Gawler township. In the post World War II era, suburban infill allowed the suburb to develop. Light is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. Light is named after Colonel William Light (1786 – 1839), who was the first Surveyor-General of South Australia. The electorate was created in 1857, abolished at the 1902 election and recreated at the 1938 election. Willaston is a northern suburb northeast of the Adelaide city centre in South Australia. It is located in the Town of Gawler. History William Paxton and Samuel Stocks obtained land in the area in 1848 and 1849. After Stocks died in 1850, Paxton laid out the village called Willaston. The village may have been named after Willaston in Cheshire, due to a probable association with the Stocks family. Willaston Post Office opened on 1 November 1864. Buchfelde, South Australia
Buchfelde is now a suburb of Gawler, South Australia, on the northern outskirts of Adelaide in South Australia. History A property in the area was settled in 1848 by Dr. Richard von Schomburgk and his brother Otto, and is named after their financial benefactor Leopold von Buch who helped them flee Germany. The name was changed from Buchfelde to Loos in 1918 after a town in France which was the site of a battle in 1915. This was to remove a "name of enemy origin".
