Gaussian Vault
The Gaussian vault is a reinforced masonry construction technique invented by Uruguayan engineer Eladio Dieste to efficiently and economically build Thin-shell structure, thin-shell barrel vaults and wide curved roof spans that are resistant to buckling. Gaussian vaults consist of a series of interlocking, curved, single-layer brick arches that can span long distances without the need for supporting columns. This allows the construction of lightweight, efficient and visually striking structures. These arches are characterized by the use of a double curvature form, along an inverted catenary, which allows for greater structural efficiency and a reduction in the amount of materials required for building wide-span roof structures. The term "Gaussian", coined by Dieste himself, typically refers to the Bell shaped curve, bell-shaped curve often used in statistics and probability theory. ''Homenaje'' () is a 1996 live album, recorded during the "Metal Rock Festival" at Obras Sanitarias. The concert was a reunion of the first line-up of the Argentine heavy metal band V8, with the exception of its original bass player Ricardo Iorio. Background V8 was a 1980s Argentine heavy metal band whose most famous line-up included Ricardo Iorio (bass), Osvaldo Civile (guitar), Alberto Zamarbide (vocals) and Gustavo Rowek (drums), which recorded the band's first two studio albums. Civile and Rowek left in 1985, and the band broke up in 1987. All four members created new bands, all of which were among the most influential in Argentine heavy metal. Civile created Horcas, and Rowek joined Walter Giardino (another former V8 member) in Rata Blanca. Iorio created Hermética, and then Almafuerte when Hermética broke up in 1995. Eduardo Torroja
Eduardo Torroja y Miret, 1st Marques of Torroja (27 August 1899 – 15 June 1961) was a Spanish structural engineer and a pioneer in the design of concrete shell structures. Education Torroja was born in Madrid where he studied civil engineering. Career In 1923 Torroja began work for the Hidrocivil company, headed by the engineer José Eugenio Ribera. He planned and directed various types of projects, including the foundations of bridge piers, bridges, water supply and sanitation works, and various urban buildings. Torroja's first large project was the Tempul cable-stayed aqueduct (1926) in Guadalete, Jerez de la Frontera, in which he used pre-stressed girders. In 1928 he established his own office. Modesto López Otero, director for the Madrid University City (''Ciudad Universitaria de Madrid'') project, formed a diverse team of young architects to design the various buildings. Punta Ballena is a small peninsula (''punta'') and a resort (''balneario''), as well as an important tourist attraction on the coast of Río de la Plata in the Maldonado Department of southeastern Uruguay. It comprises an approximately long stripe of beaches and landforms and extends on both sides of Route 10. Geography Punta Ballena borders the resort Chihuahua to the west, it includes the Casapueblo citadel, the promontory of Punta Ballena, and the beach Playa Las Grutas to the east of it. Antoni Bonet I Castellana
Antoni Bonet i Castellana (Barcelona, 1913–1989) was a Spanish architect from Catalonia, designer and urban planner. He began his career with Josep Lluís Sert and Josep Torres Clavé. He was a member of GATCPAC. In 1936 he joins the atelier of Le Corbusier in Paris. Afterwards he works in Argentina and Uruguay. He is best remembered as one of the designers of the "BKF" Butterfly chair, as part of the Austral Group, in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1938, along with partners Juan Kurchan and . From 1971 through 1975, his studio in Barcelona Spain, was run by the head of studio, Miguel Cervantes Martinez Brocca, a Uruguayan architect who then became head of the Central office of Bellas Artes of Spain. Bonet designed the lower apartments for La Manga Campo de Golf as well as the upper Cabeza Blanca apartments above the club house.
