Gastrolobium Celsianum
''Gastrolobium celsianum'', the Swan River pea, is a low-growing shrub which is endemic (ecology), endemic to Western Australia. It is a member of the pea family Fabaceae and of the genus ''Gastrolobium'', which contains many toxic species; however the Swan River pea is not toxic and is recommended for garden use by the Australian National Botanic Gardens. The species can grow to tall by broad. The red flowers, which have a distinctive long and curving keel, usually appear between August and November in Australia (late winter to late spring). The leaf shape, ovate leaves are glossy green above and silvery below. The species was first formally described by the French botanist Charles Antoine Lemaire in 1844 and published in ''Horticulteur Francais'' as ''Brachysema lanceolatum''. Charles Antoine Lemaire (1 November 1800, in Paris – 22 June 1871, in Paris), was a French botanist and botanical author, noted for his publications on Cactaceae. Education Born the son of Antoine Charles Lemaire and Marie Jeanne Davio, he had an excellent early education, and acquired the reputation of being an outstanding scholar. He studied at the University of Paris and was appointed as Professor of Classical Literature there. At some stage his botanical interest was sparked and developed by his association with M. Michael Crisp
Michael Douglas Crisp (born 1950) is an emeritus professor in the Research School of Biology at the Australian National University located in Canberra. In 1976, he gained a PhD from the University of Adelaide, studying long-term vegetation changes in arid zones of South Australia. In 2020, Crisp moved to Brisbane, where he has an honorary position at the University of Queensland. Carl Daniel Friedrich Meissner (1 November 1800 – 2 May 1874) was a Swiss botanist. Biography Born in Bern, Switzerland on 1 November 1800, he was christened Meisner but later changed the spelling of his name to Meissner. For most of his 40-year career he was Professor of Botany at University of Basel. He made important contributions to the botanical literature, including the publication of the comprehensive work ''Plantarum Vascularum Genera'', and publications of monographs on the families Polygonaceae (especially the genus ''Polygonum''), Lauraceae, Proteaceae, Thymelaeaceae and Hernandiaceae.
