Gaston Essengué
Gaston Essengué (born October 10, 1983) is a Cameroonian basketball power forward (basketball), power forward with Club Atletico Quilmes in the Argentina National League. He is also a member of the Cameroon men's national basketball team, Cameroon national team. Essengué first attended Compton College and Weatherford College in Texas, where he graduated from in 2005. He then transferred to University of Nevada - Las Vegas, UNLV, from where he graduated in 2007. Essengué joined Venados de Mazatlán (basketball), Venados de Mazatlán of the CIBACOPA in mid-2022. He signed with the Buras de Hermosillo of the Circuito de Baloncesto del Pacífico (CIBAPAC) later that year. National team career Essengué won a silver medal with the Cameroon men's national basketball team, Cameroon national team at AfroBasket 2007. The Pacific Basketball Circuit ( or CIBAPAC) is a semi-professional basketball league based in Northwestern Mexico. It was founded in 2015 with the purpose of developing young talent from the region. The league began with four charter members from Sinaloa and Durango but has since grown to include teams from across the country. As of 2023, there were 31 teams from 10 states. Format The CIBAPAC is a developmental league that was created with the aim of developing young talent in Northwestern Mexico, especially in cities without a professional team. Outside of the two foreign players allowed per roster, the teams are made up of local talent. AfroBasket 2007 was the 24th FIBA Africa Championship, played under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Basketball, the basketball sport governing body of the African zone. The tournament was hosted by Angola, in the cities of Benguela, Cabinda, Huambo and Lubango. Angola won its fifth consecutive African championship and ninth overall by beating Cameroon 86-72 in the championship game. Cape Verde won the bronze medal game over Egypt. FIBA Africa Championship
The AfroBasket (alternatively known as the FIBA Africa Championship, FIBA African Championship, or FIBA AfroBasket) is the men's basketball continental championship contested by the senior national teams of Africa, played once every four years. Through the 2015 edition, the tournament took place every two years and also served as a qualifying tournament for the FIBA World Cup and the Summer Olympic Games. However, since 2017, the AfroBasket along with all other men's FIBA continental championships are no longer a part of the qualifying process for the World Cup or the Olympics.
