Gary Stead (speedway Rider)
Gary Raymond Stead (born 9 January 1972) is a New Zealand cricket coach and former cricketer. He was the head coach of the New Zealand cricket team from August 2018 to June 2025, and coached the New Zealand squad which won the 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship. A top-order batsman, Stead played five Tests in nine months in 1999, averaging 34.75 and never being dismissed in single figures. Against South Africa he showed his great character at Wellington, scoring 68 and 33, but after two mediocre performances against West Indies he was dropped. His Test call-up had come after eight years of first-class cricket with Canterbury, and he led them for five seasons from 1998–99 in a period when they struggled. After he finished playing, he took up coaching and became coach of the successful New Zealand women's team. Christchurch (; ) is the largest city in the South Island and the List of cities in New Zealand, second-largest city by urban area population in New Zealand. Basin Reserve
The Basin Reserve, also known as the Cello Basin Reserve for sponsorship reasons, and commonly referred to as the Basin, is a cricket ground in Wellington, New Zealand. It is used for Test cricket, Test matches, and is the main home ground of the Wellington Firebirds First-class cricket, first-class team. The Basin Reserve is the only cricket ground to have listed status with Heritage New Zealand, in recognition of being the oldest first-class cricket ground in the country. Historically, the ground has also been used for events other than cricket, such as association football matches, concerts and cultural events. Rob Walter
Rob Alun Walter (born 16 September 1975, in Johannesburg, South Africa) is a South African cricket coach, currently in charge of the New Zealand national team. He was the head coach of South Africa in the One Day International and Twenty20 International formats from January 2023 until 30 April 2025. In June 2025, he became head coach of the New Zealand team across all formats, succeeding Gary Stead. Early life Walter was born in Johannesburg on 16 September 1975. Career Walter served as the Proteas' strength, conditioning, and fielding coach from 2009 to 2013. In 2013, Walter was appointed as the head coach of Titans. Later, he also worked as an assistant coach with the Pune Warriors and Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League. The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup was the 12th Cricket World Cup, a quadrennial One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament contested by men's national teams and organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The tournament was hosted between 30 May and 14 July across 10 venues in England and a single venue in Wales. It was the fifth time that England had hosted the World Cup, and the third time matches had been played in Wales. Super Over, also known as a one-over eliminator or a one over per side eliminator, is a Tiebreaker, tie-breaking method used in Limited overs cricket, limited-overs cricket matches. If a match ends in a "Result (cricket)#Tie, tie", it proceeds to a Super Over, in which each team plays a single additional Over (cricket), over of six balls to determine the winner. The team scoring the most runs in that over is declared the winner. Following a rule change in October 2019 for knockout and bilateral series matches, if a Super Over ends in a tie, another Super Over is played.
