Gary Quested
Gary Quested (born April 1951) is a former Australian association football player. Between 1968 and 1977 he played as a winger for Melita Eagles and Auburn in the top level of the NSW Soccer Federation. Born in England, he represented Australia on the tour to Vietnam in 1970. Life Gary Quested is the son of the English professional association football player Len Quested and his Australian born wife Elsie. He was born in April 1951 when his father played for Fulham FC in the English Football League First Division. In mid 1957 Len Quested, his wife and their children Gary, then six, and Jacqueline, 3, migrated to Australia. After arrival in Sydney, Len Quested joined the Auburn football team in Western Sydney which played in the NSW first division and commenced a successful career in Australian "soccer". Manfred Schaefer
Manfred Schaefer (12 February 1943 – 28 March 2023) was a German soccer player who played as a defender. At club level he won titles with St. George Budapest. Born in Germany, he represented the Australian national team internationally, participating in the 1974 World Cup in Germany. As coach he was several times runner-up in the Australian National Soccer League with various clubs. Early life Schaefer was born in the East Prussian town of Pillau, Germany (now Baltiysk, Russia), near Königsberg (now Kaliningrad). In the dying days of World War II his family fled westward to Bremen. In 1954 the family emigrated with Manfred, by then aged 11, to Australia. The National Soccer League (NSL) was the top-level soccer league in Australia, run by Soccer Australia and later the Australian Soccer Association. The NSL, the A-League's predecessor, spanned 28 seasons from its inception in 1977 until its demise in 2004, when it was succeeded by the A-League competition run by Football Federation Australia, the successor to the Australian Soccer Association. Adrian Alston (born 6 February 1949) is a former professional soccer player. Born in England, he began his career as a youth player with Preston North End and briefly at non-league Fleetwood before moving to Australia. In Australia, he played for South Coast United, then St George before returning to South Coast United (known as Safeway United before folding in 1974) and was called up to the Australia national soccer team after two years in the country. Nicknamed "Noddy" for his heading ability, he made his international debut in 1969 and was instrumental in helping the side qualify for the 1974 FIFA World Cup, the first time the nation had ever reached the finals tournament, where he featured in all three group matches.
