Garry Michael White is an American playwright and screenwriter. He wrote the screenplay for ''Scarecrow (1973 film), Scarecrow'', which shared the Palme d'Or, Grand Prix with ''The Hireling'' at the 1973 Cannes Film Festival. White also co-wrote the 1976 action film ''Sky Riders'' and the romantic drama ''The Promise (1979 film), The Promise'' in 1979. Has a new full-length play "Wish Mirage" which was filmed in a staged reading presentation in New York in December 2020. ''Scarecrow'' is a 1973 American road movie directed by Jerry Schatzberg and starring Gene Hackman and Al Pacino. The story involves the relationship between two men who travel from California seeking to start a business in Pittsburgh. The Palme d'Or (; en, Golden Palm) is the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival. It was introduced in 1955 by the festival's organizing committee. Previously, from 1939 to 1954, the festival's highest prize was the Grand Prix du Festival International du Film. In 1964, The Palme d'Or was replaced again by the Grand Prix, before being reintroduced in 1975. The Palme d'Or is widely considered one of the film industry's most prestigious awards. ''The Hireling'' is a 1973 British drama film directed by Alan Bridges, based on a 1957 novel of the same title by L. P. Hartley, which starred Robert Shaw and Sarah Miles. The 26th Cannes Film Festival was held from 10 to 25 May 1973. The Grand Prix du Festival International du Film went to ''Scarecrow'' by Jerry Schatzberg and ''The Hireling'' by Alan Bridges. At this festival two new non-competitive sections were added: 'Étude et documents' and 'Perspectives du Cinéma Français' (which is started by the French Film Directors' Society and runs until 1991). ''Sky Riders'' (also known as ''Assault on the Forbidden Fortress'') is a 1976 American action film directed by Douglas Hickox and starring James Coburn, Susannah York and Robert Culp. The rescue sequences were filmed in Meteora in Greece where the finale of the later James Bond film '' For Your Eyes Only'' was also set later in 1981.
