Baillieston ( sco, Bailiestoun) is a suburb of Glasgow, Scotland. It is about east of the city centre. It also gives its name to Ward 20 of Glasgow City Council and forms part of the Glasgow East constituency of the UK Parliament. Geographical position Once a separate village, Baillieston is now on the periphery of the Glasgow urban area, situated west of a major interchange between the M8, M74 and M73 motorways and the A8 trunk road, between the town of Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, and the neighbouring Glasgow neighbourhoods of Sandyhills, Barlanark and Mount Vernon. Bannerman High School is a state secondary school in the Baillieston suburb of Glasgow, Scotland. Barrachnie is a place in Glasgow, Scotland adjacent to Garrowhill. History It was an ancient fermtoun which was mentioned in the Glasgow Protocols and had many entries in the rental book of the Bishopric of Glasgow in the Middle Ages - . Like the other parts of the district it was part of the Barony and Regality of Glasgow and from about 1600, also of the parish of Old Monkland. The first coal mined in the Baillieston district was in the Barrachnie pit. Springhill is a district in the Scottish city of Glasgow. It is situated north of the River Clyde on the eastern edge of the city, north of the areas of Baillieston and Garrowhill and west of Swinton. Springhill consists mainly of semi-detached and detached family houses built in the 1990s, as well as ''Glasgow Business Park'', a partly-completed industrial and commercial estate near to the neighbourhoods of Barlanark and Easthall, which features the local DVSA driving test centre and a 4-metre high landmark wire sculpture of a Clydesdale Horse by Andy Scott, who has other works on display in the vicinity - a phoenix in Easterhouse and a group of sirens at the water tower in Cranhill. North Clyde Line
The North Clyde Line (defined by Network Rail as the ''Glasgow North Electric Suburban'' line) is a suburban railway in West Central Scotland. The route is operated by ScotRail Trains. As a result of the incorporation of the Airdrie–Bathgate rail link and the Edinburgh–Bathgate line, this route has become the fourth rail link between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Baillieston (Ward 20) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. On its creation in 2007 and in 2012 it returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the boundaries were changed: the ward decreased in size and population, and returned three members.
