Garfield Grove
Garfield Grove is a Giant Sequoia grove. The entire lies in Sequoia National Park in the Sierra Nevada range in eastern California in the United States. In December 2001, the neighboring Dillonwood Grove was purchased by the Save The Redwoods League for $10.3 million and added to Sequoia National Park. Prior to the purchase, the Dillonwood Grove was the largest grove in private ownership. The two groves are botanically the same and now managed as a single grove. Tulare County
Tulare County ( ) is a county located in the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 census, the population was 473,117. The county seat is Visalia. The county is named for Tulare Lake, once the largest freshwater lake west of the Great Lakes. Drained for agricultural development, the site is now in Kings County, which was created in 1893 from the western portion of the formerly larger Tulare County. Floyd Otter (tree)
Floyd Otter is a giant sequoia located in Garfield Grove, which is itself located near the town of Three Rivers, California. The tree was named after former Mountain Home Demonstration State Forest manager Floyd L. Otter. The tree is the twelfth largest giant sequoia in the world. It was severely burned in the Castle Fire in 2020 and may be moribund. History In fall 1978, Naturalists Gus Boik, Wendell D. This is a list of giant sequoia groves. All naturally occurring giant sequoia groves are located in the moist, unglaciated ridges and valleys of the western slope of the Sierra Nevada range in California, United States. They can be found at elevations between . While many groves are within national park boundaries, such as Sequoia National Park and Yosemite National Park, most of the giant sequoia groves are under the care of the United States Forest Service, placing them outside the legislative mandate that excludes commercial timber harvest.
