"Gangsta Gangsta" is a song from American hip hop group N.W.A's 1989 album ''Straight Outta Compton''. It was released as the album's first single in November 1988, and later appeared on the '' N.W.A Greatest Hits'' album and '' The Best of N.W.A. - The Strength of Street Knowledge''. Background The song conveys the dangers of living in the streets of Compton, California and South Central Los Angeles but also speaks of the appealing side of "gangsta life". Dedrick D'Mon Rolison (born August 9, 1971), better known by his stage name Mack 10, is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer, and record executive. He was a member of hip hop supergroup Westside Connection along with WC and Ice Cube and has sold nearly 11 million records between his solo and group works. His stage name is a reference to the Ingram MAC-10 submachine gun. As a record executive, Mack 10 is the founder and CEO of Hoo-Bangin' Records. William Edward DeVaughn Jr. (born November 28, 1947) is an American R&B/soul singer, songwriter and guitarist, best known for the million-selling hit song " Be Thankful for What You Got" in 1974. Biography DeVaughn was a salaried government employee as a drafting technician, and a part-time singer. He wrote a song called "A Cadillac Don't Come Easy", which was eventually re-written to become "Be Thankful for What You Got", in 1972. He spent $900 towards getting it recorded with Omega Sound, a Philadelphia production house. The record's producer at Omega, John Davis (a member of the MFSB studio session group), came up with a smooth arrangement, eventually booking time to record at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia, used by Philadelphia International Records. Boogie Down Productions (BDP) was an American hip-hop group formed in the Bronx, New York City, in 1986. It originally consisted of KRS-One, D-Nice, and DJ Scott La Rock. DJ Scott La Rock was murdered on August 27, 1987, five months after the release of BDP's debut album, '' Criminal Minded''. The name of the group, Boogie Down, derives from a nickname for the South Bronx. The group pioneered the fusion of dancehall reggae and hip-hop music, and their debut LP ''Criminal Minded'' contains frank descriptions of life in the South Bronx during the late 1980s. Steve Arrington
Steven Ralph Arrington (born March 5, 1956) is an American singer, songwriter, drummer, record producer, engineer and minister, who grew up in Dayton, Ohio. Biography Arrington played in various local bands before joining and touring with The Murphys, a lounge band out of Toledo, Ohio, in 1975. About a year later Arrington relocated from Ohio to San Francisco, California where he learned Latin percussion and drumming as well as playing with Coke Escovedo, Pete Escovedo and Sheila E. He joined the funk group Slave (founded 1975) on their third LP, called '' The Concept'', in 1978 – originally to play percussion, then later becoming the drummer and a backing vocalist. The Headhunters
The Headhunters was an American jazz fusion band formed by Herbie Hancock in 1973. The group fused jazz, funk, and rock music. History and band name Hancock had grown dissatisfied with his prior band, Mwandishi, and wanted to make a band with a stronger funk component. He chose the name of the group, "Headhunters", while doing Buddhist chanting. The name pleased him because it made a triple reference to the jungle, to intellectual concerns, and to sexual activity.
