Gamini Iriyagolla
Gamini Abhaya Iriyagolle (known as ''Gamini Iriyagolle'') (c.1936-2003) was a Sri Lankan lawyer, civil servant, presidential advisor and a writer. He was a former member of the Ceylon Civil Service and served as Presidential adviser to J R Jayawardena and Ranasinghe Premadasa Born to I. M. R. A. Iriyagolla and Ranee Iriyagolle Menike, he had six siblings. His father I. M. R. A. Iriyagolla was Cabinet Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs. Educated at the Royal College, Colombo, where he won the Turnour Prize several times and edited the college magazine. At seventeen he entered the Law Faculty of University of Ceylon after gaining first in the University Entrance Exam. By the age 22 he was the youngest advocate in the island. Indrani Iriyagolle (c. 1933-2015) was a well-known figure in Sri Lanka for rehabilitation, welfare, women's rights and humanitarian work. Indrani Jayasinghe was born in Badulla. Her grandfather, William Jayasinghe, established the first Buddhist English School for boys in Badulla. After gaining her primary education at Nalanda College Colombo, she went to Musaeus College, Colombo during the World War for her secondary education. The Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) ( Sinhala: ශ්රී ලංකා පරිපාලන සේවය; śrī laṁkā paripālana sēvaya) is the key administrative service of the Government of Sri Lanka, with civil servants working for both in the Central Government as well as in the provincial councils. It was formed as the ''Ceylon Administrative Service'' (CAS) in 1963 as the successor to the Ceylon Civil Service which was abolished on May 1, 1963. It is the senior of the public services. The Ceylon Civil Service, popularly known by its acronym CCS, was the premier civil service of the Government of Ceylon under British colonial rule and in the immediate post-independence period. Established in 1833, it functioned as part of the executive administration of the country to various degrees until Ceylon gained self-rule in 1948. Until it was abolished on 1 May 1963 it functioned as the permanent bureaucracy or secretariat of Crown employees that assisted the Government of Ceylon.
