Game Show Congress
Game Show Congress is a meeting of industry professionals, former contestants and fans of television game shows. It was first held in 2002. Past Congresses GSC 1 The first Game Show Congress was held in Boulder, Colorado as an outgrowth of the University of Colorado Program Council Trivia Bowl and was spearheaded through the efforts of Paul Bailey as a non-profit organization. Featured guests included Steve Beverly as well as ''Who Wants to Be a Millionaire'' winners Ed Toutant and Lori Bailey plus multi-show winner Leszek Pawlowicz. GSC 2 The second Congress moved to Las Vegas and was held in conjunction with an open quiz bowl tournament. Game Show
A game show is a genre of broadcast viewing entertainment (radio, television, internet, stage or other) where contestants compete for a reward. These programs can either be participatory or demonstrative and are typically directed by a host, sharing the rules of the program as well as commentating and narrating where necessary. The history of game shows dates back to the invention of television as a medium. On most game shows, contestants either have to answer questions or solve puzzles, typically to win either money or prizes. Game shows often reward players with prizes such as cash, trips and goods and services provided by the show's sponsor. He is best known for hosting the game show ''Street Smarts'', which aired in syndication from 2000 to 2005. John Harlan (announcer)
John Henry Harlan (December 21, 1925 – February 27, 2017) was an American television announcer who worked on numerous television projects for over 40 years, particularly game and variety shows. He was from Sonoma County, California. Perhaps his best-known work was for the Bob Hope specials aired on NBC during the 1960s through the 1990s. Among game show fans, his most memorable outings were ''You Don't Say!'' and versions of ''Name That Tune'' produced between 1974 and 1985. Harlan attended California State University, Fresno, graduating in 1948. He served as class president for the fall term. At school he was friends with Wendell Bell, serving as his best man at his 1947 wedding. He married Beverly Christensen, who was a model on ''Queen for a Day'' where Harlan was an announcer.
