Galway International Rally
The Galway Rally, or Galway International Rally, is an annual motorsport tarmac rallying event held in Galway, Ireland. Promoted and organised by Galway Motor Club, the rally was first ran in 1971. The Galway International Rally is the oldest International rally in Ireland. It has hosted the European Rally Championship stage every year between 1975 and 1982. In 1978 the Galway International Rally hosted the opening stage of the first Irish Tarmac Rally Championship. History The rally ran annually as an International event from its inception in 1971, with only few exceptions. In 2002 it was run under as the "West International Rally". Rallying is a wide-ranging form of motorsport with various competitive motoring elements such as speed tests (sometimes called "rally racing" in United States), navigation tests, or the ability to reach waypoints or a destination at a prescribed time or average speed. Rallies may be short in the form of trials at a single venue, or several thousand miles long in an extreme endurance rally. Keith Cronin
Keith Cronin (born 18 July 1986) is an Irish rally driver and four-time winner of the British Rally Championship. He won the 2009 British Rally Championship in his first year in the series, defeating multiple champion Mark Higgins in his privately entered TTec Rally Prep Cronin Motorsport Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX. Cronin successfully defended his title in 2010 driving a Subaru Impreza. After missing the 2011 season, he returned to the Championship in 2012. He won three out of six events in his Citroen DS3 R3, meaning he won the overall title for the third time in his career. 2017 saw him crowned British Rally Champion for the fourth time. Tapio Laukkanen
Tapio Laukkanen (born 23 September 1969) is a retired Finnish rally driver. He was born in Lahti. In 1996 he won the Finnish Rally Championship in a Volkswagen Golf GTi, in 1999 he won the British Rally Championship with a Renault Mégane Maxi twinned with fellow Finn, Kaj Lindström and in 2016 he won the Kenyan National Rally Championship in a Subaru Impreza. In 2017 he won Kenya's Safari Rally. Other co-drivers include Jorma Kaikkonen, Risto Mannisenmäki, Tapio Järvi, Ilkka Riipinen and Rory Kennedy, Gavin Lawrence. Toyota Corolla WRC
The Toyota Corolla WRC is a World Rally Car built for the by Toyota Motorsport GmbH to compete in the World Rally Championship. It is based upon the E110 version of Toyota Corolla road car. The car was debuted at the 1997 Rally Finland, and replaced the Toyota Celica Turbo ST205. It won a total of four rally victories and the 1999 World Manufacturers' title. Marcus Grönholm
Marcus Ulf Johan "Bosse" Grönholm (born February 5, 1968) is a Finland, Finnish former rallying, rally and rallycross driver, being part of a family of the Swedish-speaking population of Finland lineage. His son, Niclas Grönholm, is an upcoming FIA World Rallycross Championship driver. Grönholm's nicknames are either "Bosse" (mainly in his native Finland and the Scandinavian countries) or "Magic Marcus". Eugene Donnelly (born 13 January 1967) is a rally driver from County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, who races in the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship. Gareth MacHale (born 12 August 1980) is an Irish rally driver, who has scored points in the World Rally Championship. Career MacHale comes from a family with a background in rallying. His father Austin MacHale is a five-time Irish Tarmac Rally Championship champion. Gareth's younger brother Aaron is also a rally driver. MacHale competed in an eight-round programme in the 2006 World Rally Championship season in a privately entered Ford Focus WRC. Ford Focus WRC
The Ford Focus RS WRC is a car built for the Ford World Rally Team by Ford Europe and M-Sport and based on the Ford Focus Climate 2-litre production hatchback, developed to compete in the World Rally Championship. The RS stands for ''Rallye Sport'' and the WRC for '' World Rally Car'', the car's FIA specification. The Focus RS WRC was in competition from 1999 to 2010, winning 44 world rallies and two manufacturers' world titles ( 2006 and 2007). It was replaced by the Ford Fiesta RS WRC. The Hyundai i20 R5 is a rally car built by Hyundai Motorsport and based upon the Hyundai i20 road car. It is built to R5 regulations.
