Gallup High School
Gallup High School (GHS) is a public high school in Gallup, New Mexico. Gallup High School is the largest high school in the Gallup-McKinley County School District. The school's campus is relatively new as GHS moved to its current location in 1998 and the old campus became known as Gallup Junior High School, which housed 8th and 9th grade students from 1998 to 2008. In the 2008–2009 school year, Gallup started splitting their 9th and 10th grade students with cross-town Miyamura High School. The Gallup High School attendance boundary after the split will be Gallup's westside and areas located west and north of town. History Wendell Hendricks became the principal in 1970. Timothy Bedah
Timothy Bedah (October 4, 1945 – June 18, 2017) was a Navajo American painter and goldsmith born in Tohatchi, New Mexico. He exhibited his work across the United States. Bedah is known for his silver and gold jewelry, including rings, bracelets, and buckles, for which he won a number of awards. Bedah was born to Edward Bedah (Plains Indian, Kiiyanii clan) and Thelma Begay (Navajo, Todacheenie clan). He was a promising art student as a child, excelling in painting and music. After graduating from Gallup High School in 1965, he was a guitarist and drummer in a country music band. He worked for a time at Carson's Trading Post in Gallup, New Mexico, where he learned how to silversmith. In the mid-1970s he began working with gold. Aztec High School
Aztec High School is a public high school in Aztec, New Mexico. The school colors are black and orange and the mascot is the Fighting Tiger. In addition to Aztec, the district (and effectively the high school) also serves northern Bloomfield and the communities of Cedar Hill, Center Point, and La Boca. Yah-ta-hey () is a census-designated place (CDP) in McKinley County, New Mexico, United States. As of the 2020 census, the CDP population was 757, up from 590 in 2010. The English name for this place is an approximation of a Navajo greeting, though the actual Navajo name means "just like a devil", the nickname for Anglo storekeeper J.B. Tanner. Tanner operated the trading post located here, and was criticized by the local community for his greedy business practices. The same name is used for Aneth, Utah, where Tanner also worked. The community is the center of the Rock Springs Chapter of the Navajo Nation. History The Rock Springs Chapter started to take form in the late 1930s. It is part of the "Checker Board Area" in the Eastern Agency of the Navajo Nation. The chapter area covers the communities of Sagebrush, China Springs, and Rock Springs.
