Gallowayella Weberi
''Gallowayella weberi'' is a species of corticolous and saxicolous (bark- and rock-dwelling), foliose lichen in the family Teloschistaceae. Found in the eastern United States, it is a small lichen with a smooth yellow to orange upper surface and a contrasting white lower surface. Taxonomy The lichen was first formally described as a new species in 2003 by the lichenologists Sergey Kondratyuk and Ingvar Kärnefelt, who named it ''Xanthoria weberii''. The type specimen was collected in Grimes County, Texas in 1970. It was found by William Alfred Weber in woodlands dominated by '' Quercus stellata'' (Post Oak), where it was abundant on oak trees in both dusty roadside locations and urban areas. The spelling with two "i"s was erroneous, and it was corrected to ''weberi'' in a subsequent publication. After a couple more proposed generic transfers, to ''Oxneria'' and later to ''Xanthomendoza'', Kondratyuk, Kärnefelt, and their colleagues finally reclassified the taxon in the ...

Gallowayella Borealis
''Gallowayella borealis'' is a species of saxicolous and muscicolous (rock- and moss-dwelling), lichen in the family Teloschistaceae. The lichen is characterized by a foliose (leafy) thallus that forms small, cushion-like clusters, with that are often convex and have a distinctive orange colour with a reddish tint, occasionally covered in . It reproduces vegetatively through abundant soralia producing rounded, -like soredia. Chemically, it contains high levels of parietin among other lichen products. ''Gallowayella borealis'' thrives on both horizontal and vertical rock surfaces, often enriched by guano, and is particularly abundant in continental Antarctica, co-existing with ''Polycauliona candelaria'' near penguin rookeries. It has a bipolar distribution, found in the Arctic and boreal forests of the Northern Hemisphere as well as in ice-free zones of continental Antarctica. Taxonomy The lichen was formally described as a new species in 1992 by Rolf Santesson and Josef Poe ...

Gallowayella Galericulata
''Gallowayella galericulata'' is a species of corticolous and lignicolous (bark- and wood-dwelling) lichen in the family Teloschistaceae. This species has small, orange, foliose (leafy), loosely adnate thalli that form either compact colonies or spread extensively. The of the thallus are typically curved inward, and often form a characteristic helmet- or hood-like shape. Found in dry regions of the western United States, it colonises bark and wood, particularly favouring dry twigs of various shrubs and trees. Taxonomy The species was formally described as a new species in 2006 by the Swedish lichenologist Louise Lindblom. The type specimen was collected by Stephen and Sylvia Sharnoff in a sagebrush area south of Boise, Idaho, where it was found growing on '' Artemesia''. It is named for its distinctive helmet-shaped lobes. Sergey Kondratyuk and colleagues transferred the taxon to the newly circumscribed genus ''Gallowayella'' in 2012. Description The lichen has a corticolou ...

Gallowayella Aphrodites
''Gallowayella aphrodites'' is a species of corticolous (bark-dwelling), foliose (leafy) lichen in the family Teloschistaceae. It is found in the Mediterranean countries Greece, Cyprus, and Italy. Characteristics of the lichen include its small thallus, the disposition of the rhizines on the thallus undersurface, and the lack of vegetative propagules. Taxonomy The lichen was first formally described as new to science in 1997 by lichenologists Klaus Kalb, Josef Poelt, and Sergey Kondratyuk. The type specimen was collected by Kalb from Cyprus, about northwest of the Kykkos Monastery. There, at an elevation of , it was found growing on tree bark. The species epithet ''aphrodites'' names Ancient Greek goddess Aphrodite, "who is said to have emerged from the sea off the coast of Cyprus". In 2002, Søchting, Ingvar Kärnefelt, and Kondratyuk proposed transferring the taxon to genus ''Xanthomendoza'' as one of 16 members of the ''X. ulophyllodes'' species complex, based on p ...
