The Galerie Konrad Fischer is a German contemporary art gallery. It was founded in 1967 by Dorothee and Konrad Fischer in Düsseldorf, in a disused alley in the center of the city. History The gallery's first exhibition presented the work of Carl Andre to European audiences. The gallery has focused on minimal art, conceptual art and arte povera since its founding. The gallery has exhibited contemporary artists including Bernd and Hilla Becher, Wolfgang Laib, Jim Lambie, Sol LeWitt, Bruce Nauman, Manfred Pernice, Thomas Schütte, Gregor Schneider, Robert Smithson, and Paloma Varga Weisz. Contemporary art is a term used to describe the art of today, generally referring to art produced from the 1970s onwards. Contemporary artists work in a globally influenced, culturally diverse, and technologically advancing world. Lawrence Weiner
Lawrence Charles Weiner (February 10, 1942December 2, 2021) was an artist born and raised in New York City. One of the central figures in the formation of Conceptual Art in the 1960s, Lawrence Weiner explored the potentials of language as a sculptural medium. For him language could be presented in any format able to discourse with typical art subjects such as: language installed on a wall, printed as text in a book or catalog, spoken or performed in a film, spoken aloud in conversation, simply remembered, et cetera; as Lawrence explains in 1970:"As to construction please remember that... there is no correct way to construct the piece as there is no incorrect way to construct it. Gilbert Prousch, sometimes referred to as Gilbert Proesch (born 17 September 1943), and George Passmore (born 8 January 1942) are artists who work together as the collaborative art duo Gilbert & George. They are known for their formal appearance and manner in performance art, and for their brightly coloured graphic-style photo-based artworks. In 2017 the pair celebrated their 50th anniversary as collaborators. Candida Höfer
Candida Höfer (born 4 February 1944) is a German photographer. She is a renowned photographer known for her exploration of public spaces and architecture. In her career she transitioned from portraiture to focusing on spaces like libraries and museums. She is a former student of Bernd and Hilla Becher. Like other Becher students, Höfer's work is known for technical perfection and a strictly conceptual approach. Her work explores the ways in which institutional architecture shapes and directs human experience. Höfer's technical approach is reflective of her goals as an artist. From 1997 to 2000, she taught as professor at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. Hans-Peter Feldmann
Hans-Peter Feldmann (17 January 1941 – 24 May 2023) was a German visual artist. Feldmann's approach to art-making was one of collecting, ordering, and re-presenting. Biography Feldmann was born on 17 January 1941. In the 1960s, Feldmann studied painting at the University of Arts and Industrial Design Linz in Austria. He began working in 1968, producing the first of the small handmade books that would become a signature part of his work. These modest books, simply entitled Bilde (Picture) or Bilder (Pictures), would include one or more reproductions from a certain type—knees of women, shoes, chairs, film stars, etc.--their subjects isolated in their ubiquity and presented without captions. Edith Dekyndt
Edith Dekyndt (born 1960; Ypres) is a visual artist. Her work observes, identifies, and transforms the performative phenomenology of ordinary materials, objects, and gestures. She lives and works in Brussels and Berlin. Work and career Dekyndt established herself as an artist in the mid-1990s. Since then, she has become best known for working with everyday objects. Guy Ben-Ner (; born 1969) is an Israeli video artist. He lives and works in Tel Aviv, Berlin and New York City. Giovanni Anselmo
Giovanni Anselmo (5 August 1934 – 18 December 2023) was an Italian artist, who emerged after World War II within the art movement called Arte Povera. His most famous artwork is ''Untitled (Sculpture That Eats)'' (1968), a piece of art representing time and nature. Biography After completing classical studies, he trained as a self-taught painter. He made his debut in 1967 as part of a group exhibition at Galleria Sperone in Turin with two untitled polymateric works. Early life Glueck was born in New York City on July 24, 1926.
